Document: Pakistan agency backs al-Qaida

By DAVID STRINGER, Associated Press Writer
17 minutes ago

LONDON - A leaked document accuses Pakistan's intelligence agency of indirectly supporting terrorist groups including al-Qaida and calls on Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf to disband the agency.

Musharraf, who is scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair later Thursday, told the British Broadcasting Corp. that he rejected the assessment and would raise the matter with his counterpart.

"ISI is a disciplined force, breaking the back of al-Qaida," Musharraf told the broadcaster, claiming his intelligence service had secured the arrests of 680 suspected terrorists.

The BBC on Wednesday declined to identify the author of the document but said the person was linked to MI6, the British secret intelligence service. The broadcaster's "Newsnight" television program said it had been passed a copy of the document, which it said was collated as part of a private British review of efforts across the world to combat terrorism.

The BBC quoted the document as saying that Pakistan was coming under "closer and closer" international scrutiny because of the intelligence agency's support for the country's hard-line opposition Islamic coalition Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal, also called MMA.

Britain's Ministry of Defense said the document was part of academic research and did not represent the views of either the ministry or Blair's government.

"To represent it as such is deeply irresponsible and the author is furious that his notes have been willfully misrepresented in this manner," said a defense ministry spokeswoman, on customary condition of anonymity.

"Indeed, he suspects that they have been released to the BBC precisely in the hope that they would cause damage to our relations with Pakistan."

Musharraf traveled to London after talks Wednesday in Washington with President Bush and Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Musharraf said he and Karzai decided to increase cooperation in fighting terrorism, including developing better intelligence coordination and interaction.

"The meeting that I held with President Bush and Hamid Karzai last night was very good," Musharraf said in comments aired live on Pakistani TV. "It was decided that we should have a common strategy. We have to fight terrorism. We have to defeat it, defeat it jointly."

It was a stark departure from the recent criticisms he and Karzai have lobbed at one another in recent days. Karzai has accused Pakistan of not doing enough to curb Islamic schools that produce militants, while Musharraf said the Afghan leader was ignoring large sectors of his war-ravaged country's population.

Right up to Wednesday night's White House dinner, they also have pointed fingers at one another over Osama bin Laden and other terrorist leaders. Each says bin Laden isn't hiding in his country and suggests the other might do more to help find him.

Tensions were still apparent in Washington. Following the dinner, Karzai and Musharraf attended a news conference where they both shook Bush's hand but didn't shake each other's.

The BBC also reported Wednesday that British military commanders were overruled by politicians in a request to withdraw troops from Iraq to strengthen force numbers in Afghanistan.

It said the document suggested military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan were heading toward an "as yet unspecified and uncertain result."

It painted a bleak picture of military and counterterrorism work, similar to a U.S. intelligence assessment — parts of which were declassified Tuesday — that warned of a growing terrorist threat and concluded Iraq has become a "cause celebre" for jihadists.

British troops are being "held hostage in Iraq following the failure of the deal being attempted by the COS (Chief of Staff) to extricate UK Armed Forces from Iraq on the basis of doing Afghanistan," the BBC quoted the document as saying.

It said senior commanders had hoped to focus resources on the NATO-led mission to secure governance in southern Afghanistan, where British, Canadian and U.S. troops have met fierce resistance, the BBC said.

The BBC said the document reinforced claims that military intervention in Iraq had served to encourage extremism, a notion repeatedly rejected by Blair.

"Iraq has served to radicalize an already disillusioned youth and al-Qaida has given them the will, intent, purpose and ideology to act," the BBC quoted the document as saying.

You guys are better off reading reliable Indian sources regarding the events around 9/11 because they like the Serbs and Russians and the 'Stan nations were victims of the American backed jihadis - the same jihadis which for some reason decided to bite the hand that fed them - why? That is one of the true questions that seeks an answer.

The real conspiracy behind 9/11 is hinted at here:

From: US after 9/11: None the wiser

(The writer B. Raman is Additional Secretary (retd), Cabinet Secretariat, Govt. of India, and, presently, Director, Institute for Topical Studies, Chennai, and Convenor, Observer Research Foundation (ORF), Chennai chapter.)

Reposting to highlight these points of B. Raman which mirrored my own thoughts/findings:

* To what extent the gratitude of the US intelligence for the contribution made by the ISI in the war against the Soviet troops in Afghanistan blinded it to its culpability?

* Was the co-operation extended by the ISI in the arrest of Mir Aimal Kansi, the murderer of two officers of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in January, 1993, Ramzi Yousef, a master-mind of the February 1993 World Trade Trade Centre explosion, Abu Zubaidah, supposedly No. 3 in Al Qaeda, Ramzi Binalshibh, an important Al Qaeda operative, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, allegedly a master-mind of 9/11, and Waleed bin Atash, a suspect in the attack on the US naval ship USS Cole in October 2000 sufficient ground for closing the US eyes to other acts of continuing culpability by Pakistan?

The fact that none of these questions has been addressed by the Congressional committee and that its report, as published in the US media, does not even refer to Pakistan does not speak well of the thoroughness of the enquiry.

Who are these Islamic radicals? Were they only the Arab members of Al Qaeda or did they also include the members of the Pakistani terrorist organisations? Why was the FBI not paying sufficient attention to them? Was it due to their role as the surrogates of the US in the war against the Soviet troops in Afghanistan? Were they able to hoodwink the US agencies by projecting themselves as continuing allies of the US in its campaign against Saddam Hussein in Iraq and Slobodan Milosevic in Bosnia?

Ramzi Yousef reportedly entered the US with an Iraqi passport posing as a hunted opponent of Saddam and fled from the US as a Pakistani citizen after participating in the World Trade Centre explosion. Did the HUM's role, found useful by the US, in training the jihadi opponents of Milosevic in Bosnia and Kosovo and participating in their jihad make the US agencies close their eyes to its burrowing into US homeland in preparation for taking the jihad to the US homeland?

One looks in vain for answers to them.

There was no hoodwinking of certain individuals inside US agencies on 911.

The operation was guided, protected, funded and orchestrated by a criminal, murderous element within the US government.

In a compact nutshell, 911 was carried out as a fake wargame that went live. It was hidden and wrapped around the other terror/wargames being run that day.

Everyone has their own path to the real truth behind 911.

Paper and people researchers like, Chossudovsky, Ruppert, Ahmed and Thompson have laid out all one needs to know on that aspect of 911.

Then others like Jim Hoffman of http://wtc7.net, David Ray Griffin, and then Dr. Jones, Kevin Ryan and others at http://ST911.org, have covered the physical aspects of WTC 1,2 and 7 and broke down the lies FEMA/SILVERSTEIN/NIST/911 COMMISSION reports.

There is one thing for certain, the official fairytale of 911 needs to be exposed as the lie and hoax that it is.

Why not?

In any case - if any of those men you mentioned make no mention of Bosnia and Kosovo and America's relations with the jihad then they are blind, deaf and dumb.

I will sum up what B.Raman's article above hinted at; that America was allied with the jihadists for a long time in support of certain foriegn policy objects - well known news in the eastern world. Russia, China and the 'Stans even formed the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to combat America's jihad (India was a silent partner). This alliance with the jihadis allowed them to be allowed into the USA for training and fund raising. Monitoring was minimal - these jihadi assets were 'ghosted'. All that is a fact. Indian, and Russian intel was monitoring these American allied jihadi groups - as were the Serbs and the Israelis. I do know America was warned by these intel agencies but America ignored them because they were fighting the Serbs and Russians and Indians and thought they were liars trying to make America drop her Muslim allies like in Bosnia. The Serbs knew it was the Bosnian jihadis - they even had files on them.

I do not know if A) some American power groups mad backroom deals with the jihadis to look the other way at the potential of attack or B) they were also blindsided by the 9/11 blowback from our black ops operations?

I lean towards scenario B but A could also be what happened.

See this old article I posted under the tag name of Pericles: Central Asian terror crack-down to focus on three groups (Russia, China and the 'Stans Exclude USA)

If you note the date of this organization it was founded in the mid 90s when the Clinton administration was using Islamic extremists as a pretext to extend "Western" (I do not say American because its citizens were kept in the dark for the most part) control eastward. The group's mandate to fight the "three forces" of terrorism, religious extremism and ethnic separatism is a direct refrence to Bill Clinton's support of the Bosnian Muslims, the Kosovo Albanians that he had NATO military force seperate from Yugoslavia and the indirect support given to the Chechen rebels by the "Third-Wayist" West against the Russians.

We are seeing right now in the formation and consolidation of this Central Asian groups a direct result of a disastrous foreign policy that Clinton initiated and many elected representatives of both parties sadly supported. It is not because the Northern Alliance is made up of criminals that they do not want a heavy Western presence in Afghanistan, it is because the West under Clinton was undermining Central Asia with the help of al-Qaeda. The Northern Alliance does not trust us for a reason.

I can see that you are unaware of the body of work by those research authors. They lay out a slam dunk paper/people trail case that 911 was orchestrated by a group within our government.

Before making judgments on their extensive work, I think you need to do a little more reading.

Officials in the Bush administration along with officials in Clintons are to blame. Both signed off on backing down on OBL and other Saudi/Pakistani/Afganistan ties.

The Clinton administration was still backing the Taliban till "98". Also lets not forget that the whole created "Islamic extremist" movement was started under Carter.

There was no "blowback" or looking the other way by the Bush adminstration. Certain individuals completely ran and had complete control of the whole 911 operation.

The FBI/CIA/DIA were monitoring the 911 hijackers and low level agents were told by their superiors to back down and follow other directions.

Could the hijackers thought they were double agents? Sure, why not. They were just wind up toys, leaving a trail to cover the real culprits.

The complete stripping of normal NORAD/NEADS procedures and the 911 wargames made the flying of airliners all over the east coast for almost 2 hours possible.

I don't think that 19 arabs had much say and control over the 911 wargames or the FBI/DIA/CIA/State Dept./NORAD/FEMA and other US agencies and individuals in the US that made 911 happen.

Don't link any garbage from FR. I view that forum with the same distain as Daily Kos, LP or DU. If you think that there is a choice between the two parties, you are in the wrong forum.

I was posting on forums about Bin Laden before 9/11 because he was helping Muslims and NATO in Bosnia and Kosovo so I don't give much credence to those Johnny-Come-Lately authors. Many of my postings came from informed sources that leaked info to me.

It saddens me you do not know of me but such is the fame of a forum poster.
