Okay, so we know the Dems and Pubs are both useless sides of the same coin and as long as the corporatists can buy the pols at the top, just working through regular party politics is pretty useless. Or so it seems anyway. Perhaps I am too pessimistic.

Anyway, I am wondering about starting political talk/action groups in local area - not affiliated with any party, or even a particular philosopy, but just to give people a place to meet, exchange info, debate, have duels :) etc. It seems like we need some new paradigms. I'd like people to get past the rigidity and partisan thinking involved with current political parties and systems and be able to speak honestly and freely and at length. It seems to me that political forums are lacking in regular life, but the activity on the Net would indicate to me that a need or desire to connect in this way exists.

What do you folks think of the likely success of such groups in your own area?

Oh jeez, you'd have to wear a rubber suit to your meetings.

Heh. Not me. Up here on the High Plains it's all Happy Fun Balls and Domers.

That sounds so deep. Is that like being an Army of One, but more flexible?

Or something.

Revolutions are always betrayed. Groups are often subverted, and not necessarily by outsiders.

Remember the stats on how the number / duration of acquaintances and friends of Americans has plummeted since the 60s? That can only increase the difficulty of cooperation, the risks of betrayal.

Forming "talking groups" is in a sense putting the cart before the horse. Find a place, make it yours, or join it. Put down roots. The talk will follow, and less of it will actually be needed, as more things will go without saying.

As long as there's a designated driver, you bet.

I've already said too much.

There's a lot of truth to that and I seem it in the lives of myself and my friends. A lot of it is economics - we live where we it's cheapest or go where the jobs are, so it's very hard to form on-going communities on that kind of bases. There's no shared experiences or values because the entire society is shaped by the devotion to the "bottom-line".

'bottom-line'

Surviving. Paying for healthcare, shelter, food.
