WASHINGTON Sep 29, 2006 (AP)— Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., submitted a letter of resignation from Congress on Friday in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former male page, according to a congressional official.

Foley, 52, had been considered a shoo-in for re-election until the e-mails surfaced in recent days.

Campaign aides had previously acknowledged that the Republican congressman e-mailed the former Capitol page five times, but had said there was nothing inappropriate about the exchange. The page was 16 at the time of the e-mail correspondence.

Foley's election opponent, Democrat Tim Mahoney, has called for an investigation.

16 years old? Well the guy's a fruit and he might like them a bit young, but a 16 year old does not qualify one as a pedophile. In fact it's legal in many states and it's marrying age in most. It was an abuse of a position of power and that makes him a predator, but not the age of the complainant.

You forgot about the difference in his position as well. He's not just any older man looking for any 16 year old.

And he was the Chairman on the Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus. Plus he is the GOP representative for a state with a lot of missing children from its state foster care program.

I still disagree with you about 16. It's too young to make a decision like this, one that could lead to a permanent lifestyle choice too. As Red pointed out, if it's a 16 and 17 year old girl and boy, that's different. But he's too young for the pressure brought to bear by an older man; especially, as you point out in this abuse of power.

It's not just about having sex with someone who may or may not be legal. It's about lying to US, it's about using his power to gain advantage over potential partners - some of whom maybe UNDER age, we don't know - it's about pretending to be something he's not, it's about voting for torture and destroying civil liberties while pretending to be a decent American. This guy is a piece of garbage. This whole lifestyle of preying on teenagers - boys or girls is DISGUSTING and should be prosecuted SEVERELY. I would bury this bastard UNDER the jail.

not only that these events indicate that the guy is a pervert who can't control himself. He's obsessed with his perversions to the point where he takes wild risks. has no control over himself. obviously an unfit person.
