WASHINGTON Sep 29, 2006 (AP)— Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., submitted a letter of resignation from Congress on Friday in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former male page, according to a congressional official.

Foley, 52, had been considered a shoo-in for re-election until the e-mails surfaced in recent days.

Campaign aides had previously acknowledged that the Republican congressman e-mailed the former Capitol page five times, but had said there was nothing inappropriate about the exchange. The page was 16 at the time of the e-mail correspondence.

Foley's election opponent, Democrat Tim Mahoney, has called for an investigation.

He's already listed on Rick Santorum's Republican Child Molester website:

"Republican Congressman Mark Foley abruptly resigned from Congress after "sexually explicit" emails surfaced showing him flirting with a 16-year old boy."

This reminds me of the movie 'Airplane':

Captain Oveur: Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?
Captain Oveur: You ever been in a cockpit before?
Joey: No sir, I've never been up in a plane before.
Captain Oveur: You ever seen a grown man naked?
Captain Oveur: Joey, have you ever been to a Turkish prison?

A spokesman for Foley, the chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children

HA! This is priceless! Do you have a link to that?

It's too bad this smarmy POS will continue to get paid for a lifetime. This is a great story to print out and save to show to others. a great example of the inherent corruption and phoniness of govt. especially when it comes to what they call 'protecting children'.

Seems like national news to me.. call it what it is on a National level.. Otherwise, it might be viewed as a partisan hit; ignored as the smear of the day, and thusly discarded as junk mail. Such things are worthy of every hot light shined on it as possible. Afterall, that's what they have in mind for for their enemies. In places where the sun normally never reaches.

Florida Republican Party Chairwoman Carole Jean Jordan said executives from each of the counties in Foley's district will meet to choose a replacement on the ballot. Among the possibilities was state Rep. Joe Negron, who was a candidate for attorney general before dropping out of the race to avoid a primary with former Rep. Bill McCollum.

...It would be very time sensitive so the nominee would have the opportunity to get around the district and campaign in a very short amount of time,'' Jordan said....."

"The campaign for Mahoney, who trails Foley in the polls, said it didn't release the e-mails and wouldn't make them part of the campaign. In a statement released by Mahoney spokesman Jessica Santillo, the campaign referred to the boy as an ``alleged victim.''

``The seriousness of these allegations goes far beyond the tit for tat of a political campaign,'' Santillo said. ``This is a matter for the appropriate authorities to investigate. I believe Mr. Foley deserves the benefit of the doubt until these allegations are proven true or false.''

Meanwhile, back in Florida, the GOP prepares to replace the canidate, and the challenger takes a moderate, laid back posture concerning this windfall.

The Real Problem With Foley (0 / 0)

It's not that he's gay. It's that he constantly hits on underage interns on The Hill. You guys talk about an "open secret" well Foley's eye for the young boys in the White House and around the Capitol is what has the Republican bosses scared to death. It's just wrong that this guy can hit on young boys and still be in the leadership.

by WHInternNow on Tue Sep 05, 2006 at 05:48:09 PM PDT

This post from Daily Kos three weeks ago indicates that Foley's proclivities were already common knowledge on the Hill at that point.

those are keen observations in #171. I personally think that the modern practice of preventing or discouraging people from getting married at a young age is frequently very harmful to people. They're physically ready when they're young. and if they wait they will develop bad habits and patterns. that is my opinion anyway.

When both are 'responsible' they might be ready... but much personal responsibility and the teaching of it has been erased. To be phsically ready, is really not the issue, is it? That's means you have 'parts' that work. But can you work to support your parts? If you are self-reliant, I would say, you can then be ready to look for another such individual. Otherwise, you avail yourself to leaches, or become one.

Another gay Republican family man outed. This is too rich. I wondered why Limbaugh was extra testy today.

During the final fifteen minutes of the Pills Limbaugh show today he went on some sort of rant against the world wide web and the demogages (sp) on it. He said something about those criticizing our our war effort enables and strengthens the enemy.

I'm sorry for being vague but I was in heavy city traffic and I never exactly got who he was directing his venom toward. But I put it in my memory banks since he was attacking the Internet folks expressing their opinions. I think he used the phrasees blogosphere and world wide web.

I can hardly stand listening to that drug addled pig, but I did for a little while today.

If the name of the new nominee is submitted after the certification of results of the preceding primary election, however, the ballots shall not be changed and the former party nominee’s name will appear on the ballot.

Well, with Tom Foley's name still on the ballot it looks like a Democrat will pick this seat up.

This is crooked little Florida, watch them figure out some way to redo the ballots. They don't want to lose this seat, and they don't care ow they hold it, or who screams at them because of what they do.

I mean, what can you do to protest them doing that, petition the Governor?
