WASHINGTON Sep 29, 2006 (AP)— Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., submitted a letter of resignation from Congress on Friday in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former male page, according to a congressional official. Foley, 52, had been considered a shoo-in for re-election until the e-mails surfaced in recent days. Campaign aides had previously acknowledged that the Republican congressman e-mailed the former Capitol page five times, but had said there was nothing inappropriate about the exchange. The page was 16 at the time of the e-mail correspondence. Foley's election opponent, Democrat Tim Mahoney, has called for an investigation.

This reminds me of the movie 'Airplane': Captain Oveur: Joey, do you like movies about gladiators? HA! This is priceless! Do you have a link to that? It's too bad this smarmy POS will continue to get paid for a lifetime. This is a great story to print out and save to show to others. a great example of the inherent corruption and phoniness of govt. especially when it comes to what they call 'protecting children'.

Seems like national news to me.. call it what it is on a National level.. Otherwise, it might be viewed as a partisan hit; ignored as the smear of the day, and thusly discarded as junk mail. Among the possibilities was state Rep. Joe Negron, who was a candidate for attorney general before dropping out of the race to avoid a primary with former Rep. Bill McCollum.

You guys talk about an "open secret" well Foley's eye for the young boys in the White House and around the Capitol is what has the Republican bosses scared to death. those are keen observations in #171. I personally think that the modern practice of preventing or discouraging people from getting married at a young age is frequently very harmful to people. They're physically ready when they're young. and if they wait they will develop bad habits and patterns. that is my opinion anyway.

When both are 'responsible' they might be ready... but much personal responsibility and the teaching of it has been erased. To be phsically ready, is really not the issue, is it? That's means you have 'parts' that work. But can you work to support your parts? If you are self-reliant, I would say, you can then be ready to look for another such individual. Well, with Tom Foley's name still on the ballot it looks like a Democrat will pick this seat up.
If the name of the new nominee is submitted after the certification of results of the preceding primary election, however, the ballots shall not be changed and the former party nominee’s name will appear on the ballot.
