Well I'm on the Downeaster "Alexa"

And I'm cruising through Long Island Sound

I have charted a course to the Vineyard

But tonight I am Nantucket bound

====

We took on diesel back in Montauk yesterday

And left this morning from the bell in Gardiner's Bay

Like all the locals here I've had to sell my home

Too proud to leave I worked my fingers to the bone

====

So I could own my Downeaster "Alexa"

And I go where the ocean is deep

There are giants out there in the canyons

And a good captain can't fall asleep

====

I've got bills to pay and children who need clothes

I know there's fish out there but where God only knows

They say these waters aren't what they used to be

But I've got people back on land who count on me

====

So if you see my Downeaster "Alexa"

And if you work with the rod and the reel

Tell my wife I am 'trolling Atlantis

And I still have my hands on the wheel

====

Now I drive my Downeaster "Alexa"

More and more miles from shore every year

Since they tell me I can't sell no stripers

And there's no luck in swordfishing here.

====

I was a bayman like my father was before

Can't make a living as a bayman anymore

There ain't much future for a man who works the sea

But there ain't no island left for islanders like me

The Sea is a bitch for a mistress.

If you ever get the chance to go to CapeCod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and beyond - please take it - you'll not regret the experience.

Just before 9/11 PBS ran a great show on the whaling ship the Essex. What a whale of a story!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A671492

"If there’s another 9/11 or a major war in the Middle-East involving a U.S. attack on Iran, I have no doubt that there will be, the day after or within days an equivalent of a Reichstag fire decree that will involve massive detentions in this country."

- Daniel Ellsberg Author, Pentagon Papers

I saw Billy Joel together w/Elton John two years ago. It was a knockout show.

Oh man!! I bet it was killer!!

Now step into your way back machine... waaaaaaaaay back..

I saw Elton live with .............Kiki Dee (Don't go Breakin' my Heart, fame) .. at the Oakland Colluseum.. for my BIRTHDAY. I'm only 23, still.. of course. ;)

It was such a great show.. I still have the pics. He had flourescent painted ping pong balls on wires sticking out from his costume.. the place was lit with black lights... All you could see for a while was ... colored balls wafting back and forth across the stage.. ROFL!!! ..

When you get to Nantucket Island, please take in the Whaling Museum there - that one ticket will make it all worthwhile.

Simply unbelievable.

Check out the http://www.whalingmuseum.org/ for more details.

Happy harpooning, everyone.

Nantucket

Should anyone wish to get into lymericks this evening...

But, it's time to get the biscuits in the oven, and the buns in the bed here.

Have fun, all.
