GOP Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) let Foley spend "a lot of time" with pages, including private dinner with one, after GOP knew Foley was a problem

by John in DC - 10/01/2006 08:41:00 PM

Shimkus is toast. There's even video of Shimkus letting Foley talk to the pages AFTER the GOP knew Foley had page-issues.

You'll recall that he is the Republican member of Congress who runs the Page Board, the group in charge of the pages. You'll also recall that tonight we learned on ABC News that GOP House staff warned the page class of 2001-2002 to stay away from ex-Rep. Mark Foley.

Then why is it that on June 6, 2002, well after the kids were warned to stay away from Foley, Shimkus notes approvingly that Foley has spent a lot of time with the Page Class of 2001-2002? This is Shimkus speaking at the page's goodbye ceremony,

MR. SHIMKUS: I thank my colleague. Now someone who spends a lot of time with you also, the gentleman from Florida (Mr. Foley), would like to say a thank you.

(Note: We've confirmed in the Congressional Record that this is the exact transcript of the proceedings that day.)

The GOP staff knew Foley was a problem the year before, they warned the pages in 2001. Yet Shimkus, the next year is acknowledging that Foley was still permitted to spend "a lot of time" with the pages. In the name of God, why?

Oh, but it gets worse.

Foley then gets up in front of Shimkus and tells a special little story of how he took one male page to a private dinner in downtown Washington, DC. Put the page in his BMW and "cruised" - Foley's word - to dinner.

And now for the kicker.

Foley told the kid he had to get permission from his mom and he had to notify the Clerk of the House, Jeff Trandahl, the Republican staffer who works for Republican Speaker of the House Denny Hastert (R-IL). You'll also recall that Trandahl is the Clerk who joined Shimkus in 2005 to talk to Foley about the creepy email exchange with the first child who got this scandal started.

Why did Shimkus let Foley spend so much time with the pages after GOP staff already knew Foley had a "page problem"? Did the Clerk of the House approve of this dinner? Did Shimkus? Clearly Foley had no fear in the kid going to Clerk and asking for permission - so Foley seemed to think the Clerk wouldn't mind. And clearly Foley had no fear in telling the story in front of Shimkus, so he obviously didn't think Shimkus would mind either.

Shimkus then introduces Foley. Read what Foley has to say to the pages of the 2001-2002 class in his speech wishing them goodbye.

FOLEY: John [one of the pages] was the highest bidder on lunch with Mark Foley. Maybe you all do not know this story, but John had paid considerable sums to dine with me. I had offered to take the winning bidder to lunch in the Members' dining room. Then I heard how much John Eunice paid. And I said, ``John, there is no way in the world after you committed so much money to have lunch with me that I would dare take you downstairs to eat in the Members' dining room.'' I said, ``Where do you want to go?'' He says, without reservation, ``Morton's.'' I said, ``Morton's? Like in Morton's Steakhouse?'' He said, ``Oh, would that be too much?'' I said, ``Oh, no, we'll go.'' I said, ``Call your mother, get permission, make sure she notifies the Clerk and we will go to Morton's.'' And so we proceeded to cruise down in my BMW to Morton's.

Putting aside the creepy notion of children bidding on dinner with an already-suspected child sex predator, what in God's name were Shimkus and the Clerk doing approving of Foley taking a kid in his BMW to a private dinner in downtown Washington? The GOP staff already knew that Foley was trouble. They had already warned the kids. Yet Shimkus let Foley spend lots of time with the kids, by Shimkus' own admission. And then they let Foley cruise the kid to dinner in his beamer.

Shimkus is toast.

Oh, and if anyone would like to see video of Shimkus praising a suspected child predator for spending lots of time with underage 16 year old pages, you can order the video from this specific date from C-Span for $270. As C-Span notes, the video includes appearances by Mr. Foley and Mr. Shimkus.

(Hat tip to MyDD for discovering the transcript.)

And so we proceeded to cruise down in my BMW to Morton's.

The word "cruise" is the terminology used by the queers when they are looking to pick up a partner for sex, for example, "we went cruising the bars on Clark Street." So, it is not so odd to see this word used here.

Bit brazen, though, especially considering this was apparently broadcast on C-SPAN. I wonder how many other pages and congresspeople in attendance caught Foley's hint.

One of the other speakers was Rep. Kolbe, an out gay (and former page.) I'm sure he must have caught Foley's drift.

Foley is a pedophile looking to act a predatory manner toward a younger, inexperienced and unseasoned kid. Gay sexual relationships between peers symmetrical in life experience and social status is a world of difference from what Foley does.

A man doing this with female pages would be just as wrong as Foley here is for what he did. Congress is in loco parentis of pages and it is an abdication of all good ethical behavior to take advantage of those you are expected to protect.

So did he take the page to lunch or dinner?

I'm sure he did. And my experience comes from working in the florist business doing deliveries. Being around them, you learned alot and I figued out pretty quickly they were sickos. But, I never had so much fun until I went to work at a shop that had women designers. :p

Foley said lunch. Maybe dinner was Aravosis's misunderstanding.

On the other hand, I wouldn't put it past Foley to lie, since lunch sounds more innocent.

What makes you think these so-called 'peers' would not take advantage of a kid if they had the chance? That is the way they work, by corrupting the youth. Or hadn't you noticed all the training in the public fool system about diversity and lifestyle choices?

It sure is, and I hope a whole bunch of those creeps get their nuts cut off over this.

"What makes you think these so-called 'peers' would not take advantage of a kid if they had the chance?"

What proof do you have most gays would except for how your hatred of them makes you assume the absolute worst in them? I know many gays having lived in Portland and Eugene, Oregon. I know some that are crafters in the markets I worked in, who own businesses and who are lawyers, activists, Free Geekers and what have you.

I don't see any that act like pedophiles anymore then others and I do concerning women. I myself do not bother young women with serious flirting or to go out with me even if they are technically fair game being in their twenties as I am realistic. I prefer women my own age. (OK, or slightly younger, I'm not nuts you know. ;-) Many gays and lesbians are of simular mind too when they shop for companionship.

As for those who allowed this to happen by turning an uncaring blind eye to this, I too hope they get their heads put on pikes over this, as this is intolerantly unacceptable and has me very pissed off.

Hey, guess what I found on the "page" (5+ / 0-)

kid that Foley took out on the town in DC.

The "page" is a protege of Saxby Chambliss and became the youngest councilmember in Valdosta, Georgia. He endorses a camp for "at risk children" called "Life Steps" but the big news is:

Two years ago, ...was appointed to a position in the US House of Representatives by now Senator Saxby Chambliss. In this capacity he was responsible for 50 House employees and supervised the day to day operations of the US House Page Program.

Ha! Ha! The kid has learned pretty quick how to grease the skids with cash considering his "winning bid" to go to lunch with Foley. He'll make a fine Republican. ;0)

Hey, Mike, you know it is always that small minority of trouble makers out there who make it bad for those who want to mind their Ps & Qs. I do not insist that they are all bad. I do not agree with their lifestyle. It's as simple as that. They are still a bad influence, even if they stay in the closet, which most of them do not any longer.

That lifestyle is still a perversion of moral and ethical standards, and the open recruiting they do at their queer festivals and parades is something I strongly disagree with. I adhere to the Christian teaching that homosexuality is a perversion. The open display of this is a part of the destruction of our culture by the Marxists of the Frankfurt School and is also known as Cultural Communism.

If you ever take the trouble to compare films of the Weimar and the Nazi periods, it's not that hard to decide which period did the better films.

And I know the claim of recruitment is a canard. I take great credence in the results of studies by the APA which show people are either homosexual or heterosexual with some that can go both ways.

Heterosexuals are never going to be tempted to do something so alien to firing their sexual rocket and this is the same with homosexuals.

And as far as the alleged Christian teaching, I do not see the Bible as being anti gay and lesbian. I don't see any 11th Commandment against same gender sex, just a few mis-interpreted Old Testament passages being used to justify intolerance and hatred.

Homosexuality is as old as the species, and is not ever going away, nor should it.

Yeah, he is a pander bear alright. He is really relishing the role here as a scourge of people like himself. It is how this convoluted piece of human trash deals with his own demons.

He rails against gays and lesbians and mouths posturing verbiage in favor of legislation against homosexual marriage and he punches a personal demon in a most hypocritical fashion.

The idiot better never pass out drunk near the Eagle in Washington, D.C. Those leather queens would drag him in and put him on a pool table if they have one and grudge fuck the ever loving daylights out of him.

And if he goes to prison, his fellow child stalkers won't even like him for his posturing against his peers there.

I read through the posts on Kos and frankly, they made me quite depressed.

The Democrat standard bearers at Kos truly believe that the corruption and stench of absolute power only affects GOP politicans. The Kos folks believe that the good ship America will leave the storm behind once the sqweaky clean Democrats ( at least their party's politicians only abuse the authority of their office to have sex with other "consenting" adults)will take the helm.

The Kos true believers are not any more insightful regarding "the problem in our nation's midst" than the ChristonutterZionazis at freeper republic are.

I take great credence in the results of studies by the APA which show people are either homosexual or heterosexual with some that can go both ways.

Please link to what you claim.

It's my understanding that the APA came under intense pressure and lobbying from the gay rights movement to declassify homosexuality as a mental illness in the DSM ( Diagnostic Statistical manual of Mental Disorders). There's no research results that I know of that conclusively demonstrates anything you have stated about what definitive stand the APA took on this subject.

The APA made a politically correct decision about homosexuality not being a mental illness because they did not like the heat they were getting from the gay rights lobby. The APA did not say - wow since we can no longer say it's a mental illness then why don't we take a bigger PC jump by stating that people are born hetero or homo with some being born bi. Say what?

Even the strongest (but unreplicated) studies supporting the idea of genetic component of homosexuality by comparing the incidence of homosexuality in identical twins only showed a 50% concordance rate, which is below that of manic-depressive disease. Homosexuality is less genetically predetermined than serious depression.

So one has to assume from that statistical minuscle number attributed to the possible contributing effect of genetic pre-determination, that environment behavior shaping is very important for homosexuality to increase in any numbers in the general population. Of course, if society goes beyond "toleration" to "encouragement" of the experimental practice of homosexuality, numbers of easily malleable young people engaging in this behavior in the future will increase.
