Total Republican Collapse Imminent

by Chris Bowers, Mon Oct 02, 2006 at 08:21:50 PM EST

The last ten days have been amazing. Starting with Bill Clinton fighting back against Faux News, we have now seen:

I'm sure that I am forgetting some stuff too. But there is this other thing that is going on:

This meltdown has been breathtaking. Even before it started, Democrats were already on the brink of at least taking control, if not a huge wave election. Now, even taking the Senate seems entirely possible. Now, who knows how bad things will get for Republicans in elections around the country. There is now way to hold off an onslaught like this when they were already in such a bad position. Even the generally cautious, uber-insider Hotline is now starting to see a wave:

Matt is right that Democrats in Congress once again showed how they are not an effective opposition party because of their weak campaign to stop the torture bill (although I disagree when he says they could have "easily" stopped" the bill with an effective campaign). However, I am starting to seriously think that that bill may be the last time we have to worry about ineffective opposition form Democrats in Congress. In the face of total Republican collapse, a good situation for Democrats is quickly turning into a rout. My only regret is that the election ends in five weeks instead of two weeks, because there may be enough time for Republicans to at least somewhat recover and keep the battle for control close. Right now, at least in the House, I don't think the battle for control is very close. There is just no way they can win in the face of this when they were already losing before it.

Please, someone pinch me to make sure that I am not dreaming. This is a total Republican collapse. The House of Representatives may now be ours to lose, but we need to make sure that we stya on the attack as much as possible, and not slack off for one second.

This looks like a great time for a "terrorist attack" in a large American city.

I say Houston or Miami.

The R need and deserve to loose BIG TIME and so do the Dems who were so snoorkered into to the ME debacle,

Israel needs to be the biggest LOOSER if America is going to remain a place where the goys can enjoy a peaceful life in the future.

i sometimes think the republicans are just jumping clear of george bush's mess. it might be better to not be the responsible party if the currency collapses or the US is driven out of Iraq or afghanistan.

Remember, free speech is a privilege, not a right. In time of war speech should be censored and even prosecuted if it crosses the line. ~ Aaron on LP

The currency, Iraq and Afghanistan are done deals. None of them are going anywhere until the Big Dogs that run the Bush family and their false opposition give the go-ahead.

When it gets bad enough, the only way out for the Beltway Terrorists is to blow up another part of America and scare the hell out of the sheep. It will probably be followed by a crackdown on actual opposition.

If I were Billary, I would want Republicans to keep Congress. Let them get every last drop of blame for everything that happens between now and 2008.

There is more than one Institute. There is more than one Island. There is no outside world to which we can flee -- or if there is, it is just a bigger Institute, or a synthesis. The fact that all Institutes are prisons, and all Islands mostly lies, does nothing to reduce the danger of contamination.

I agree completely. Let them stew in their own feces, and after two more years of this crap there won't even be a Republican Party. It will be the Democrats versus the Libertarians.

But the torture bill passed. Foley stayed just long enough to insure that Smirk and his gang have their get of jail free card. And, another joint attack on our liberties was successful.

Maybe that list above is the other half of the deal.

"If there’s another 9/11 or a major war in the Middle-East involving a U.S. attack on Iran, I have no doubt that there will be, the day after or within days an equivalent of a Reichstag fire decree that will involve massive detentions in this country."

- Daniel Ellsberg Author, Pentagon Papers
