LIMBAUGH: I'm just thinking out loud here. What if somebody got to the page and said, you know, we want you to set Foley up. We need to do a little titillating thing here. Keep it and save it and so forth. How would you get a kid to do that? Yeah, who knows? You threaten him or pay him. There's any number of ways given the kind of people that we're dealing with and talking about here.
Now, folks, I don't want to be misunderstood here. I'm not trying to mount any kind of a defense. That's a bad word. I'm not trying to get into a defense of what Mark Foley did. Please don't misunderstand. I'm just telling you that the -- the -- the orgy and the orgasm that has been taking place in the media since Friday and with the Democrats is -- it's all coordinated, and it's all -- it's all oriented toward the election. There's no concern about the kid -- no concern about the children.
There is -- there is -- there's not even any real problem with what Foley did, as we've discussed.

I stopped listening to Limbaugh after I heard him defend the torture at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. Somebody has got quite a hold on Limbaugh, to get him going from bad to worse. And this time I doubt if much of his audience agrees with him. Beyond going against his own professional interests. He does better shows when he has Democrats in power to attack.

Actually, I was going to edit it after I got your email, but it was too late. I really did take what you said to heart, but time to change the title had expired. The other side of this deal is that I'm pretty much pro-obscenity when it is an appropriate response to shock the sensibilities of the reader to an outrage. I found what Limbaugh said to be completely outrageous. And after I read "All Quiet on the Western Front" I came away with the conviction that taking offense at language is superfluous when what really matters are questions of life, death and in this particular instance, the seduction and sodomizing of young men (and the subsequent justification of it by apologists like Limbaugh). After a while the men in the war flipped ammo boxes over and crapped right in front of each other. Not because they were degraded, but because the dross of societal norms had been stripped away and the core of what it means to be human had been revealed to them. Am I justifying my use of offensive language and imagery? Perhaps. But I think about a confused young man, hardly more than a boy, getting emails from a perverted old bastard like Foley, and I think about eleven members of congress sweeping it under the rug and not investigating it, and I think about Limbaugh calling it "no big deal"... It pisses me off. I mean it pisses me off almost enough to use ALL CAPS. So I'm sincerely sorry if I've offended you or made you think less of me, but I'd rather you have a diminished idea of who I am than have a false impression of me.

I'm not sure what Foley will be charged with exactly. Age of consent in DC is 16. Foley's IM's/email's, while "tittilating" to quote El Rushbow, are not showing Foley to be offering the intern $ for sex. And as to the issue of sexual harrassment, Foley was not the employer of the interns. So even though Foley is a disgusting perv with pedophile potential, who deserved to be forced out of Congress, what laws did he break? I'm playing devil's advocate...

Most of Limbaugh's audience are genuine conservatives, if somewhat dim to still be listening to him regularly at this point. They're good people though, and I'm sure they're as repelled by what is happening in Washington as I am. No amount of verbal jousting is going to remove the stain that has spread over the Republican party on this issue like something unsightly on a navy blue dress. I think you're right - they must have something big on Rush as he's apparently willing to sacrifice what's left of his career for it. Although I do think that part of the reason is that Limbaugh is probably part of this gay pedophile/chicken hawk crowd who genuinely sees nothing wrong with leching after vulnerable teenagers.
