President George W. Bush said he was "disgusted" by sexually explicit messages sent by a former Republican lawmaker to teenage congressional aides in his first comment on the growing scandal.

Bush said he supported House Speaker Dennis Hastert's call for a law enforcement probe into the e-mails and text messages sent by US Representative Mark Foley to young, male congressional pages.

"I was dismayed and shocked to learn about Congressman Foley's unacceptable behavior," Bush said during a visit at an elementary school in Stockton, California.

"I was disgusted by the revelations and disappointed that he would violate the trust of the citizens that placed him in office," he said.

Bush said the law enforcement investigation "should be thorough and any violations of law should be prosecuted."

He added that Hastert, whose handling of the matter has come under heavy criticism, "wants all the facts to come out."

"I am confident he (Hastert) will provide whatever leadership he can to law enforcement in this investigation," Bush said.

I wonder if the bots will now stop defending Foley.

"wants all the facts (spun like a damn dervish) to come out..."

I love when the bots stop spinning in mid axis at command from the top.

Bush is probably just pissed that he missed the parties.

Like Kenny Boy's leadership in the Enron investigation.

I've already said too much.

I honestly think Hastert is seriously in trouble about this.

Bush just tried to use his 5 lb. fire extinguisher to put out a barn fire.

Hmmmmmm, somebody sure seems to spend an inordinate amount of time hanging around in elementary schools. He was in one on 9- 11, now he's commenting about his pederast buddy while in one. Wonder what's up with that?

I think I read Bush is out West campaigning and fundraising for Reps. Pombo and Doolittle, who are in trouble in the polls.

I read that's just what Abu Gonzales said about Foley's case today.

"We can't talk about the matter because it is under investigation".

When I saw Hastert's statement about contacting the AG or FBI, this is the first thing that came to my mind.

Putting Foley in de-tox for six to eight weeks cemented the strategy...silence/coverup.

He ought to be. It's a disgusting example of putting party and polity above the simple expedient of keeping the pages from being hassled by a perv.

The one thing that bothers me is why Foley resigned before the election. Politically, it makes no sense. He should have denied everything and ducked into the rehab program. Then, the whole affair could have been spun as political dirty tricks and speculation. The immediate resignation was the same as saying, "Yeah, I'm guilty".

He resigned immediately after ABC News read him some of the IM's on Friday. I imagine they have some way of proving they came from him.

Abhu Gonzales (5+ / 0-)

Was asked today by reporters why the FBI had not done anything since it turns out that the FBI was informed in july.

Can you guess what his response was?

"Please give us the time to do our work, also I do not want to comment on an ongoing investigation."

Congress is nothing if it isn't a group of professional liars. He could have just denied it all until after the election. He must have lost his cool and paniced. This is the type of scandal that could reach into every congressional office (staff) and the media itself (Gannon).

Let's do a count on how many times we hear the phrase "unacceptable behavior" this week.

I'll guess about a thousand times.

Both Dumbya and Jeb used the exact phrase today.

From the folks who have just trashed the Geneva Convention. That is some sick group of freaks we have in charge.

It is like a recent thing I read, we're out for 'success' in Iraq rather than 'victory'.

It made me think of the V-E and V-J days of WW2.

Geneva Convention? That was small potatoes compared to knocking off Habeas Corpus.

Bush said he was "disgusted"

He is likely ticked off that he didn't get some. Imagine raffling off a night in the Lincoln bedroom to one of the pages. ;0)

Well, if he does get a..err.... mess on him, it would behoove Jeb to get his dress dry cleaned instead of keeping it around soiled and sticky like Monica did.
