WOW. This site is hot as hell today. New posts are popping up about every two or three minutes. I can't keep up with all the stuff being posted. Has EVERYONE left Liberty Post except Badeye and his sycophants? Amazing morning!

Well, it's kind of pointless posting over there once you see what they are. I saw that this week with their excusing of the Foley debacle. Disgusting. I keep thinking of that movie "They Live" where there's a whole race of aliens running things on earth and you need special sun glasses to see them. I just got the sun glasses. It's really hard to go back once you see them with all that rotting flesh.

Well, the Foley coverup, although IMO nothing next to the murder of Habeas Corpus in terms of a scandal, has really brought out the worst in the apologists. You've got Hannity running around trying to blame Democrats for what is purely a Republican deal, you've got Rush trying to pooh pooh pedophilia, you've got a bunch of Congressmen playing CYA bingo... It's sort of like an Emperor's New Clothes, moment, except the Emperor is on the front lawn buggering the royal page.

No - it was in response to email from my "new" isp - AT&T gobbled up SBC, and is now trying to get BellSouth: looks like they want to be THE telephone company once again. smirk's FCC will probably allow it.

There had to be some reason it came out now, and it's not the Dems. According to ABC they got their initial info from a REPUB. I think they threw Foley under the bus. The Repubs are like those lizards in movies like Jurassic Park. Eventually they start fighting with each other and ripping large chunks of flesh from the weaker lizards. Gack. I think the worst response was from Drudge, who actually had the brass balls to call these pages "16 and 17 year old beasts" and castigate them for trying seduce poor ole Fruity Foley. I have finally stopped reading Drudge, after many years, because of his heinous speech these past few days. What a piece of garbage.

I don't agree with some of the viewpoints here, especially the folks who think the Jews run everything, but I think in general the posters here have a much more sophisticated and informed view of the world than in most forums. The other forums are too filled with party partisans and that baloney just don't fry no more. Both parties suck and the system is broken. I think at least most of us here realize that.

Yeah, I'm a Democrat romantic, but I agree with you on that. The people running both parties are corporate whores, with a few exceptions. I think the Democratic Party is redeemable, but the GOP is just gone.

Based on interviews I heard and articles I read prior to the Foley scandal, it appeared the GOP were heading for a train wreck at the polls. It seemed a certainty that the GOP would lose control of the House and possibly the Senate due to public disapproval of the Iraq occupation. The Foley scandal just makes it a certainty that the GOP will lose the Senate as well. How do you think a Democrat victory at the polls taking control of the House and Senate will translate into changing the disasterous direction/course our nation has been on the past 5 years?
Maybe because Drudge is gay and can relate to Foley's activities.
That's what I figure, Diana. Now, I don't want to accuse most gay people of going after youngsters. I know some do, but so do some straight people. Most gay people are aware this is verboten and stick to adults. But I've noticed that quite a few people I suspect are closeted gays, such as Drudge and Limbaugh, have been defending or deflecting on this Foley scandal, and I do think that a good part of the reason is that they see nothing wrong with going after teenagers. I think it may well reflect their own activities, especially with Drudge's explicit comments blaming the "16 and 17 year old beasts" for "seducing" Foley.

Unfortunately, with the Enabling Act just signed into law, acknowledging the fact (which I disagree with) that we're in a "state of war"; the congress has rolled over for the executive branch and been solidly, definitively, screwed. I don't see that changing in the near future. My hope for a Democratically controlled congress is that they will put some sort of brake on the executive's runaway charge toward American Fascism. I know, It's kinda like a school bus running away downhill, and I'm hoping some of the kids will stick their feet out and drag them on the ground to slow the bus down... I'm afraid that's about all we can hope for here. The congress has been marvellously supine for this White House, and a flip in both houses might just possibly send a signal to the White House not to start another war. Not that Bush would listen, but some of the people around him might step in? I know it is a faint hope. I'm hoping that we can somehow slow the march to fascism and slow the march to global, eternal war that the White House seems religiously committed to pursuing. If the Democrats can take and hold the house and senate through 2008, and they nominate a Democrat with a brain (Feingold, Gore... I'm quickly running out of names, but globalist warmonger Hillary is NOT on my list); then there is a remote possibility that the death spiral we are in can be corrected. I'm afraid the best I'm hoping for these days is to avoid or at least mitigate our slide into total catastrophe... I don't think there's much of a chance of passing on to our kids anything approaching the free country that we grew up in, but maybe we can slow the apocalypse long enough for them to escape.

Damn, I wish I could believe that about the Dems, blue, but you're right about the Repubs - they are totally beyond redemption. I guess it depends on who leads the Dems. I just wish we could move the whole party at least towards the center instead of the left. The left just kills them (and us).

If they put that beast Hilary in, they're screwed any way. Most people seem to have a negative reaction instinctively towards her, which is why she did not go into politics directly until after Bill's presidency, as she could not have gotten elected on her own. She's like a female Dick Cheney - a thoroughly repulsive person that people instinctively distrust.

I don't think the left/right paradigm is frankly useful anymore. That's hard to admit, because I have a BA in political science and it's the first thing they teach us... I want to see less statism. Because statism leads inevitably toward fascism. Drastically cut our federal defense, federal law enforcement, stop the drug war farce, and cut the federal budget by at least 50%. OTOH, we can't kill social security, because we don't want old folks eating out of garbage cans; so keep it. We can't kill medicare because we don't want poor people dying of dysentary, so keep it. But don't expand it. Enforce the borders, but don't set up fucking concentration camps for Mexicans. I mean, seriously, fucking concentration camps? But the fundamental thing is to reduce the size of the federal government, and reduce their authority, their perniciousness, and their budget, ESPECIALLY the military budget. And no more foreign fucking adventures.

I use left right because they've become convenient shorthand for the various positions that allegedly are held by the parties. I think you're right that the dichotomy has become useless as the left/right have met somewhere in the middle of the circle that revolves around statism and globalism - the "getting big" phenomena that truly endangers the entire world. I think the only answer to human freedom and just the basic succcess and competence of the institutions that we govern by, is localism. Keep governance, as much as possible, local. That's the only way it can be kept accountable. Get SMALL. I would like to see as much of the federal govt dismantled as possible. At least the internal departments and programs that have been built up over the decades. I know this will involve some pain, maybe considerable pain and confusion, but I see no alternative. You cannot have big government AND liberty. I think programs like social security and medicare were noble ideas that have failed, because we are simply too incompetent and corrupt as a people to make these ideas work on this scale. This is not a failing of our leaders - I think it's a failing we have as Americans. A weakness, if you will, that makes us look to the easiest way to make a buck, with little consciousness of where it comes from or how it affects others. Making a buck is the American moral Achilles heel - more than other people's I believe. So I would gradually start dissolving these programs over the course of 3-4 decades as it took that long to build them up, and those who have grown to rely on these programs or expect benefits, should not be allowed to become impoverished because of lies and incompetence. We must honor our debts, but let's stop building them. These programs will either have to be administered by local govts or just through private means. We just cannot manage such programs on such a nationwide scale. It's time to acknowledge our limits.

Because Congress was remarkably supportive of Bush's plans and policies ( and vice versa if you consider the prescription for seniors and no child left behind bills )even though the GOP did not hold a significant numbers advantage, I'm wondering how much practical change in course we can expect in the next 2 years after the Democrats control both houses. Like you, I hope that gridlock will slow the train and the 2 parties will be so busy fighting with each other along with preparing and posturing for the 2008 elections that we sheeple will get a chance to have some "peace" literally and figuratively. For me the 2 major issues facing our country is our foreign policy and the fedgov's efforts to erode our constitutional rights and freedoms. And from what I've seen thusfar the Republocrats have been joint partners in both areas.
Military budget cuts will not have any effect on reducing foreign wars. Congress would then be more likely to use conscription. In order to change our nation's foreign policy we need to cut the various foreign policy related lobby groups' influence. There is no other nation on this planet that allows so much access of special interest lobbies to elected politicians as our nation. Cutting military budgets without cutting lobby groups' considerable power ( Israel lobby, military industrial complex lobby,oil industry lobby but to name a few of the big movers and shakers in this regard) will achieve little to change the disasterous meddling and interventionist foreign policy course our elected politicians have set us on.
