Exactly once in my life have I felt like I was two inches tall. It was about 15 years ago, when I was in a secretary's office. While she was out of the room I looked around and saw, on her shelf, two pictures with a teen-age girl in each one. I knew them, but couldn't remember anything about them. Even stranger, they appeared to be twins. How could I completely forget two twin girls?

When the secretary returned, I commented, "I know those girls from someplace, but I can't remember where."

To this she replied, "You've seen those pictures in the newspaper. Those are my daughters, the ones who were killed on the old Chain of Rocks bridge."

"Oh," I said. Then, "I'm sorry; I didn't make the connection."

"That's okay," she said. "Don't worry about it."

I felt like I could have crawled in a mouse hole. When I told a friend about this, he put his hand over his eyes and said, "Oh, God."

The old Chain of Rocks bridge, which in far north St. Louis, was closed down sometime in the '60s. We used to party on it in high school, hundreds, sometimes a thousand of us. These days it is a bike and walk-way from Illinois to Missouri. In between the end of the parties and the start of the bikes, it was known for one thing: two 19-year-old sisters (who weren't twins, but just looked a lot like each other) who were murdered on it.

They were, like their mother, less than five-feet-tall, and less than one-hundred pounds. Tiny little girls. I've worked out with weights that weigh more then they did.

They had taken their visiting cousin, a teenage boy, to show him their poetry they had written on the bridge. I don't remember exactly what it was about, but I believe it was the sort of idealistic "We can all get along" poetry than teen-age girls sometimes write.

While they were on it, four teen-age boys found the girls on the bridge, raped them, then threw them over the side. The drop to the Mississippi is about 60 feet. I have been on that bridge many times, and I wouldn't want to jump off of it. I'd live, because I could make it to the shore. . .but two tiny girls wouldn't be able to.

Only one body was ever found. Their cousin was made to jump over the side, but he was able to swim to the shore.

The police found all four boys rapidly. Like all criminals, they were stupid. One left his flashlight with his name on it on the bridge. All of those over the age of sixteen were convicted and given the death penalty; the 15-year-old got 30 years. So far, only one has been executed.

When people tell me they are for gun control this is the case I always bring up.

If those girls had had even a two-shot .22 derringer on them, they would be alive today. Criminals are not only stupid, they also cowards. Even if they had shot the leader – who almost always has the biggest mouth – the rest would have run.

Even if they would have had a knife with a big enough blade – maybe three, three-and-one-half inches – they'd probably still be alive.

I sometimes have this fantasy I run across this scene, and just happen to have my .357 Sig Sauer on me. The one I load with Magsafes, frangible ammo that are like little shotgun shells. I think I would make all four of those boys jump off the bridge. And if they didn't, I'd shoot them in their both their feet and then their knees. I'd have to reload, but that's okay. And then I'd disappear, and nobody ever finds out who I am.

In the last ten years I have yet to find anyone who can come up with a reason for gun control.

I'm still waiting.

Gun conrtol is goy control. Think of yourself as a banker. You know the Federal Reserve system was designed to transfer all wealth from the working class to the parasites on Wall Street. It will crash as it did in 1929 but the next time it will be an inflationary depression. Prices will have to go up at least 1,000% to cut wages and pensions as much as they need to be cut to balance our current account deficit. That is also in large part driven by over population due to legal and illegal immigration. In 1950 we didn't need foreign oil but now that we have 300,000,000 people, we do need to import over half of our oil. We will have to raise prices until 150,000,000 Americans cannot buy oil. My personal gut feeling is that prices will increase by 3,000% and not just 1,000%. That means if you fill your gas tank and you hand the man $1,000, you might get ten dollars back.

Anyone who owns property or lives in a state that does not have concealed carry permits is doomed. Even with concealed carry permits, I would not want to live in most American cities. The unemployment rate will hit 25% and inflation will wipe out all pensions and savings. Again that was intended by the design of the Federal Reserve system. In 1938 Jews were 1/2% of the German population and owned 33% of the real estate despite laws preventing foreclosures of family farms. Gun control keeps the populace tame at least in the minds of Wall Street which has a dictatorship in mind to protect the American people from all that violence.

You know the Federal Reserve system was designed to transfer all wealth from the working class to the parasites on Wall Street.

FEDGOV picked up land (private farms) for pennies on the dollar and turned them into "reserves" during the great depression.

Anyone who owns property or lives in a state that does not have concealed carry permits is doomed. Even with concealed carry permits, I would not want to live in most American cities.

Something is brewing. On another thread I pointed out that cheap "pocket pistols" from Bulgaria* that go for $150 retail are selling like hotcakes and retails can't keep them in stock. Permit or no permit at least some people are getting ready for when the SHTF. Myself included. Monday I'm going to pick up a cheap Makarov or PA-63**

*Lots of former warsaw pact members are now the only supply of milsurp style weapons and ammo. China and Russia entered into some agreement with FEDGOV to stop selling their surplus here. Not out of moral reasons mind you, China and Russia have found other buyers who are willing to pay much more than US collectors.

**PA-63 = cheap knockoff of the Walther PPK chambered in the Russian 9X18 Makarov round or .380 auto.

Edit to add: I've always had this thought. Some goth walks into a school and shoots a few classmates and the sheeple demand that we all be disarmed. FEDGOV bombs entire nations into dust and kills 100,000s of innocent people and yet no one demands any kinds of new restraints on the military or Generals who issue the orders.

I wonder what that's about, the change in suppliers.

The new Iraqi and Afghan national armies are still being issued Soviet era weapons like the AK-47 and PKM light machine gun. These are chambered in 7.62X39 and 7.62X54R repectivly. The US makes very little of this ammuntion while in China and Russia it is still standard issue for their armies and very plentiful, so guess who FEDGOV turned to to supply the Iraqies and Afghans.

Russian ammo maker "Wolf" which used to serve both the civilian and military markets in both Russia and the US is almost impossable to find in the US anymore. "Wolf Gold" is 'sporting' ammo manufactured under contract in Serbia to try and keep at least some ties to the US market.

Not to mention the "bad guys" use the same ammo types as well. Russia and China buys some brownie points with FEDGOV while raking in record ammo sales to both sides of the conflict. I imagine that surplus weapons are now being dumped on the Taliban types instead of US collectors as well.

**PA-63 = cheap knockoff of the Walther PPK chambered in the Russian 9X18 Makarov round or .380 auto

That's your first mistake.

The 9X18 is NOT THE .380 auto cartridge!

It is a different round from the 9mm Parabellum and the 9mm Kurz (.380 auto) and none of them are interchangeable!

If you buy the Makarov then buy lots of ammo because you won't be able to shoot anything else in it!

The .380 case is 17 mm, the Makarov is 18mm and the parabellum is 19 mm long.

Don't let some gun store shark sell you something that will not chamber available ammo.

Make: Makarov Model: Bulgarian Action: Double Action Caliber: 9x18 Rating: Review: I purchased this gun new. The trigger pull is hard and rough in double action but very predictable in single action, and the gun is breaking in nicely. It is reasonably comfortable to hold, depending on the grips. I recommend grips with a thumb rest and plugging or smoothing the grip screw hole. It has never failed to eject, never failed to feed, never failed to fire, and has always hit what I was aiming at. My only criticism is the visibility of the front site, which is very low and thin, and therefore hard to see. That is the only reason it gets only 4 out of five stars. I wish it came in an alloy frame model. I do not believe the Hungarian PA63 is as good. This one is a keeper. I noted a very negative review of it in Gun Tests magazine. Too bad. They claim the safety fell off after a few shots. Well, I think there's more to that story than they're saying. It is real easy to remove the safety by pushing it upward past the safety-on detent. So don't. I would also note that it looks very simple to do a trigger job to smooth the double action pull. The surfaces that need polishing are visible and accessible when the slide is removed. Finally, don't try to shoot .380 in it. 9x18 has a longer case and larger diameter than .380. I tried it (like an idiot). The firing pin won't reach the primer, the shell won't eject, and the gases may blow back. In other words, learn from my lesson.

I should have included the link above. Sawwy.

Anyway, rimless auto pistol cartridges headspace on the lip of the cartridge. This means that it rests against the barrel chamber lip and the slide comes into battery tightly behind it.

If the cartridge is 1 mm too short then the case won't meet the breech face, the firing pin will come up short, the gas seal that results from expanding brass will be non existent because the 9X18 cartridge is larger and you run the risk of being burned, blinded or otherwise injured by a case that isn't fully supported and locked into battery.

That's your first mistake.

No, it's not a mistake. The PA-63 simply comes in two different types. The first was chambered in 9X18 Makarov (which a clerk showed me by mistake when I asked to see a Makarov pistol) and produced during the cold war for police and military use. After the fall of the USSR and Bulgaria entering the US and EU market they now offer the same weapon re-chambered to .380 auto which proved to be much more popular.

Russia tried re-chambering Makarovs to NATO standard 9mm but the recoil and pressure was so extreme and dangerous they pretty much abandoned the idea and the copies that do exist have never been imported to the US.

There are also barrel/Slide/mag kits out there that will let the Makarov fire .380 auto, just as you can buy kits that let the good old Colt .45 1911A1 fire .22LR or 9mm Para.

Oh, I see, you meant "9X18 OR, .380 auto."

Got it.

I thought you meant that they are the same cartridge.

I'm aware that they've rechambered Eastern Bloc pistols for export. That's a good deal then.

Reminds me of a cartoon in the Wall Street Journal about 15 years ago. Two congressmen talking. One says something along the lines of -- "Of course I'm for gun control! How else can I keep raising taxes and pissing off my constituents?"
