He's a first-year law student at UVA (this took place in Charlottesville,) and was in the Marine Corps a while back.

Well he is a young guy who allowed himself to be manhandled by what look to be late middle aged men. He must not have been much of a Marine.

You may be correct, but it looks to me like he attempted to resist, but just wasn't able to overcome his assailants.

You are correct that this outcome will harm Allen more than one in which the man would have sucessfully defended himself. With any luck the incident will hurt Allen and pay for the young man's law school expenses.
