When I was 8 or 9 years old, I read something, (in a Catholic school of all places!) that has stayed with me for more than 40 years. To say that this created a powerful picture in my mind is a serious understatement, and I would like to share it with you.

Eternity. That is a word we use, but what picture does it bring up? Because it is something that is so far beyond anything that we can imagine......

Picure a 1,000 feet in diameter solid steel ball floating in space. A bird flies by and just brushes the steel ball with it´s wing. In 1,000 years, the bird returns, and once again, flies by and brushes the steel ball with its wing.

Thereafter, every 1,000 years, the bird returns and each time, brushes the steel ball with its wing as it flies past.

Evenutally, after a very, very long time, the steel ball is worn away to nothing and disappears, just by the action of the bird brushing its wing against the steel ball every 1,000 years.

Now picture, if you will, behind where this steel ball was suspended in space, another 999 1,000 feet in diameter steel balls floating, each of them awaiting their turn to be worn away to nothing by the action of the bird brushing its wing against them every 1,000 years.

When all of those steel balls have been worn away to nothing... that amount of time, is less than 1/1,000,000,000,000 of a blink of your eye as compared to Eternity.

And that, my friends, is what we have been Promised, by Him, for those who would chose to join with Him. In ABSOLUTE Perfection.

I've got this one...a bird picks up a single grain of sand from a beach, and flies off to a distant planet with the grain of sand in its beak. One million years later, the bird reaches the distant planet, and drops the grain of sand. He returns to Earth after a return trip of another million years, picks up another grain of sand, and heads back to the distant planet, a trip of another million years. By the time the bird is done transporting all the grains of sand on Earth to this distant world, Eternity will have JUST BEGUN. Wrap your mind around that one, folks. (Especially if under the influence of 'intoxicants'.)

Going to Lake Charles Monday. Need some refinery stink or anything?? That 18 hour drive is a killer. Am going to investigate the coastline, it was closed last time we were there, and will report back.

There is still a world of hurt in southern Louisiana.

I would be interesting in hearing about what you saw when you get back, I hope you have a safe trip, and get to eat some of that good food from there !

Those refineries across the river put out some bad smells. It's known among oil and chemical industry scientists that Lake Charles was one of the most highly polluted cities in the US. Louisiana was always known for crooked politics and with all the refinery pollution pumped out by industry through the years, it's made an environmental mess. I've been to Lake Charles and Baton Rouge when the air was so thick with it, especially on those hot, muggy days when there is not even a slightest breeze, and it really stinks!!
