Dick Cheney told George Stephanopoulos that he would "probably not" appear before Congress if subpoenaed.

It is still amazing how things change over time. Remember when Clinton was subpoenaed by Starr? He was refusing to appear and the Republicans thought that was serious:

Top Republicans Sunday warned President Bill Clinton that refusing to honor independent counsel Ken Starr's grand jury subpoena in the Monica Lewinsky case could have serious political consequences — including the possibility of impeachment.

"I think it would be disastrous. It is basically saying he is above the law, he doesn't have to comply with the law," said Senate Majority Whip Don Nickles of Oklahoma on NBC's "Meet The Press." "Everybody else in America has to comply with subpoenas (while) he's saying he wouldn't. … I don't think that would be sustainable."

"(Clinton) has an obligation as the highest official in this government, sworn to uphold the Constitution and the laws of this country. If he doesn't do that, I think public opinion would turn overwhelmingly against him," said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch of Utah on CBS's "Face The Nation."

The double standards of the GOP keep on coming.

I guess this means he also thinks he does not have to appear before a court if he is subpoenaed to do that.

I haven't heard of any mention of the Cheney's daughter purchasing land in Paraguay, perhaps they prefer a cooler place (less to remind them of where they're headed).

The diff is, there was no one to pardon Clinton.

Bush's list will make Clinton's pardons seem reserved by comparison.

good point

Oh yeah, I can see a dozen names on it already. Maybe the trick will be not to convict them until there are no Republicans in the Oval office.

As you may recall, Nixon anticipated that so he got Ford to pardon him for any offenses he "may have committed" before any legal action commenced. (No impeachment was necessary after Nixon resigned) This had never been done before, but, since the constitution doesn't forbid it, it worked.

Bush will pardon everyone that could be indicted before he leaves, in addition to freeing Jack Abramoff, Duke Cunningham and any other crooks who expected to be protected. (Clinton pardoned former House Ways & Means Chair Dan Rostenkowski, even though he had served his time.)

Nancy Pelosi has already said there will be no impeachments if she can prevent it.

This is because no one wants any serious examination of Bush & CO lying us into war. This could lead to a discussion of the forbidden topic-our middle east policy. And, that can't happen ever, for any reason.

You know, I did forget how tricky dick managed that.

You know, I did forget how tricky dick managed that.

And, at that time both parties were wringing their hands and saying how they wanted to put the unpleasantness behind us, and not to weaken the office of the prez.

Hillary would pardon BushCo at the behest of "the lobby" to prevent any dialogue about our lop-sided support for Israel.

And, neither party has any problem with an omnipotent prez, so, it should come as no surprise if Hillary (or whoever) uses The Patriot Act and signing statements with a renewed vigor to target gun owners and other perpetual fair game.

When that happens people will be shocked!

And, I'll say, "You didn't expect her to condemn the usurpation of power by Bush now that she can abuse it too, did you?"

It's never been more clear than now that the script is already written and the actors are taking their orders from the shadow government.

Bush attempted to create the illusion that he was in charge, and, judging by the open season on him now he may have actually believed it and crossed the wrong katz in the process.

The best example that comes to mind was Bush criticizing the New Berlin Wall with passionate disdain only to equivocate and withdraw his objections, calling it a "necessary security fence" 6 days later.

All "they" had to do was show him some pix from his misspent youth and he rolled right over. He'd send a million Americans to their deaths to avoid exposure of his unusual "appetites" and/or his ritual initiation into S&B....
