KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A rabbi wearing a yarmulke and a man wearing swastikas got into a fight at Kansas City International Airport Sunday evening.

KCI airport terminal An airport terminal at KCI was the scene of a fight between a rabbi and a man wearing swastikas.

According to a police report, Rabbi David Fine, 36, of Overland Park, was in the KCI terminal when he commented to Steven T. Boswell, 30, of Olathe, about a large swastika logo on his shirt and his swastika necklace.

Fine told Boswell that he should be ashamed of himself, and Boswell responded by calling the rabbi inhuman, the police report stated.

The rabbi allegedly threw a cup of coffee in Boswell's face and punched him. Boswell told police he then repeatedly punched Fine in the head.

Both men were handcuffed and charged with disorderly conduct. They refused medical attention.

The responding officer said Fine had some small bumps on his head and Boswell had coffee stains on his clothing.

Neither Fine nor Boswell have returned KMBC's phone calls.

Both men are scheduled to appear in court on June 22.

I hope those head punches hurt, and hurt real bad.

The rest of us have to put up with infuriating shit every day. We have to swallow our anger and just let it be..

Why should he be the exception?

Sounds like Boswell acted in self-defense and was justified. Somebody needs to teach the mouthy aggressor that just because he's a profession victim he can't go around assaulting people.

That you don't understand why indicates you require SENSITIVITY TRAINING, how about a good diversity class? < sarcasm >

Tsk, tsk.
That is unsound thinking, another one requiring sensitivity training and re-education, er I mean diversity classes. < sarcasm >

The good rabbi was obviously offering Mr Boswell, a lowly gentile, a sip of coffee and then went to wipe it off after it spilled, that is when the evil gentile attacked the dear innocent clergyman.
Is no one safe from these domestic terrorists?!

I don't support hurting Jews because of their beliefs..

My LARGE Libertarian streak absolutely demands the opposite also be true.

I told the story around the dinner table just now, but left out the part about man #1 being a rabbi and what the symbols were on man #2 that inspired the initial comments. The consensus was that man #1 should be charged with assault and man #2 was defending himself. Then I added the part about the identity of the men and that led to interesting discussion of cultural bias and the stupidity of political correctness.

I would think all decent people would assert that also, apparently Mr Boswell was minding his own business when he was at first, verbally, then physically assaulted for HIS beliefs.
I recall reading in the New York Times Sunday magazine some years back in their ETHICS column, which is a Q&A on ethics and hosted by a gentleman of a Jewish background. A Jewish medical doctor reported his reaction, not acted out, towards a young patient who had a swastika tattoo. It was remarkably revealing I thought.
I would think that, in America, at least, one should be able to wear the jewelry or religious symbols etc that one likes without fear of assault.
Now one can only imagine what would happen if it had been Mr Boswell who initiated the assault and violence against the rabbi for wearing his yarmulke, I think it would have been a Federal case, or near enough.
I have this outrageous idea that we should all be equal under the law.

Some, but my kids tend to view things through the filter of individual rights in most cases. The lesson was how they might have reacted differently if I had revealed the identities at the beginning of the story.

They brought up an interesting story from school that happened this week. I just posted it.

yep, that's the pertinent detail here.
