Two Hundred US Military Vehicles Under Air Escort Head To Anbar Province Nov 18, 2006 Muhammad Abu Nasr | Free Arab Voice It appears that a major US military offensive is in store for Anbar province as George Bush makes one last push to bring the Sunni heartland under occupation control, with tanks, armored vehicles, trucks hauling heavy pieces and Humvees comprising the 200 vehicle force. In a dispatch posted at 11:46am Makkah time Friday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that massive US military columns were observed driving west through Abu Ghurayb into al-Anbar Province under air escort of warplanes and helicopter gun ships. Eyewitnesses reported that it appeared that the American columns were coming up from southern Iraq. Tanks, armored vehicles, trucks hauling artillery pieces, Humvees (some armor plated), in all a force of more than 200 vehicles was on its way into al-Anbar Province at that hour. The correspondent reported that 15 minutes earlier the slow-moving columns had passed through the Abu Munaysir area of Abu Ghurayb. All regular traffic on the highway west from Baghdad into Anbar Province had been shut down at the time of the reporting. Bomb Reportedly Kills Three US Marines, Badly Injures Fourth In Hit A bomb exploded by a US military vehicle on as-Sakalat street in the middle of Hit, about 165km northwest of Baghdad on Friday morning according to a report from Mafkarat al-Islam. A source in the local puppet police who asked not to be identified was quoted as saying that the Resistance had packed a bomb in a cooking gas cylinder that was then left with other cooking gas cylinders for sale in black market shops on as-Sakalat Street, which is mainly an area where construction materials are sold. The disguised bomb went off by a US Humvee, destroying it completely and killing three US Marines. A fourth Marine was found lying 10 meters (30 feet) away from the scene of the blast. He was alive but both his legs had been blown off and he had suffered other wounds in his body. Local witnesses believed he could not survive longer than a few hours. Jaish Ansar Al-Sunnah claimed responsibility for the attack in an interview the correspondent carried our with one of the organizations commanders. Resistance Pounds US Base In Anah With Heavy Mortars In a dispatch posted at 12:12pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired four heavy 120mm mortar rounds into the Anah Youth Sports Center, a facility that US troops have occupied and turned into a local headquarters. Eyewitnesses were quoted as saying that Resistance fighters fired the mortar barrage at the US-occupied facility in Anah, about 300km northwest of Baghdad, at about 8am local time Friday morning, scoring four direct hits on the base. The witnesses, who live in the area surrounding the American-occupied center said that a number of US troops were taken out in ambulances to the main US base in the center of the city. No detailed information on the nature or extent of casualties was available. Four US Troops Reported Killed In Powerful Bomb Attack In Hadithah A high-explosive bomb went off by a US Humvee near head of the Barwanah Bridge in the Bani Dahir area of southern Hadithah, about 236km northwest of Baghdad, claiming the lives of four US soldiers. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the bomb had been planted at the base of the bridge and exploded just as a US Humvee was driving past. The blast destroyed the Humvee and the four US troops on board. The correspondent reported that the bodies of the dead Americans were strewn about the area. Witnesses said that a strong odor of grilled human flesh pervading the area following the explosion and was noticeable as far away as the Old Garage area. That was one indication of the strength of the explosion that sent burned body parts flying over a large area. US forces sealed off the entire area and American helicopters flew in to prowl the skies overhead. The correspondent reported that an American robotic bomb detector was used to search the rest of the bridge for more explosives Nine Katyusha Rockets Fired Into US Base In Barwanah In a dispatch posted at 12:03pm Makkah time midday Friday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired a violent barrage of nine Katyusha rockets into the US al-Hadbah (the Heights) base in Barwanah on the eastern outskirts of Hadithah. The correspondent quoted a source in Jaish Al-Islami who claimed responsibility for firing the rockets and who said all ordinances struck their targets. The fighters then withdrew from their positions after clouds of black smoke enveloped the US base as sirens wailed and helicopters flew in to evacuate casualties. The al-Hadbah base is regarded as the largest US base in the area east of al-Hadithah.
