Alleged al-Qaida threat to pope 'no worry,' Vatican spokesman says

ISTANBUL, Turkey (CNS) – Accusations about Pope Benedict XVI's trip to Turkey and a vague threat posted on the Internet by a group claiming to be part of the al-Qaida terrorist network have not led to alarm, the Vatican spokesman said.

Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, traveling with the pope Nov. 29, told reporters: "There is no worry on the part of the pope (or) of his entourage."

According to the British news agency Reuters, the Islamic State in Iraq, a group led by al-Qaida, accused the pope of going to Turkey in an attempt to undermine the Islamic faith of Turkey's majority.

"We have a date with victory and martyrdom and an (Islamic) state that rules under the commands of God the almighty, and then we shall break the cross and spill the wine," the group's statement said.

Father Lombardi said the statement simply demonstrated the importance of joint efforts to stop violence.

"This message also shows the importance of dialogue among religions to declare in the most explicit manner that all the various faiths must say ‘no’ to the use of violence in the name of God," the priest said

That's because the Vatican knows "al-Qaeda" is almost entirely a fiction. Not even a slight acknowledgment to this "threat". Not "Such threats are alarming but we don't take them seriously . . . ." Not even a polite nod to the DC fiction. A point blank- THERE IS NO WORRY statement, in the language of diplomacy is translated as thus:

"Ummm, take your bullshit soccer mommy stories and abusrd "web posting" pysops from this mythical group of terrorists and stick em up your ass- whereas you may have various European politicians and governments also pretending this farce is real for whatever slimey machiavelian reasons they chose- we- the Holy Church- won't entertain your lies and give them credence in public.

That is what "There is no worry". . . really means.

Exactly

I don't mean to be assumptive that just because you're Catholic you know this(but I am) does the Swiss Guard provide the Secret Service style security for the Pope or are they just Ceremonial and leave that to some contractor?

They are both- ceremonial and real body guards. I saw some documentary on them a while back- they are highly trained and capable.

Never mind. I found out that they do provide the plainclothes security. It's nice to see some traditions be able to evolve so they can remain in modern times. It would be kind of creepy seeing Blackwater around the Popemobile.

I think the Church would sooner hire policemen right out of Port Au Prince Haiti than Mercs from Blackwater. Less innocnent blood on the hands of corrupt Haitian cops than the Death Squad operaters and sadists who end up in that monsterous "company".
