An Overwhelming Second Amendment Victory for Citizens

Bush signs bill which prevents Confiscation of legal firearms During state of emergency

By Mike Blair
December 4, 2006 | American Free Press

The American people, in their fight to maintain the Second Amendment 60;right to keep and bear arms,61; have won a major victory. Never again will citizens face the prospect of being relieved of their firearms needed for self-protection by National Guard troops and police during a national crisis as experienced by the people of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

As looters and assorted thugs terrorized New Orleans, National Guard troops and New Orleans police moved through the devastated city, confiscating the firearms of law-abiding citizens who needed them to defend themselves and their property.

After overwhelming approval by Congress, President Bush signed the Disaster Recovery and Personal Protection Act, which prohibits the confiscation of legal firearms from law-abiding citizens during states of emergency. The act was included in the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill.

The National Rifle Association promised gun owners that they would 60;never again witness this kind of desecration of our rights.61;

The bill was introduced in the House by Rep. Bobby Jindal (R-La.), where it passed by a vote of 322-99. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) introduced companion legislation in the Senate, where it passed 84-16, the highest margin of pro-Second Amendment rights legislation, according to the NRA.

60;When 911 is non-existent and law enforcement personnel are busy with search and rescue mission and other duties, law-abiding Americans want to defend their families and loved ones, and the act guarantees their right to do just that,61; an NRA spokesman said.

Thanks for the ping BTPH! Keep in mind though that I am "ChareltonHest". :)

As much as I would like to celibrate this, I must look at the wording in the bill..."Law-Abiding", "legal". And as we all know, the law is what ever they want it to be. If you don't leave your home...your no longer "law-abiding".

I protest the term "law-abiding" as being adopted by pro-gunrights peoples.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits
drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add "within the
limits of the law" because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so
when it violates the rights of the individual. -- Thomas Jefferson

It'll take a militia presents...such as was in the French Quarter...to disuade a standing-army presents. In the areas of heavy "neighborhood watch" presents, the police will avoid. And if they do try to force their way in, and in fact "Waco" an entire city block, have we as patriots degraded to the point that we would let such an action slide? I don't care if they are unquestioned dictators, they will have to convince the public away from outrage. Remember Waco and the culture that spawned from it. Remember its lessons on using the media as a "softener" on the people prior to committing a deed.

They do these "test-pushes"(Waco, NOLA) to see what they can get away with. Everytime they get away with such things, they gain confidence.

Good quote from T.J., thanks. Your points well taken and correct they are. ;0)
