I find it interesting how most people think about the Bible. Or not, as many do not think of it at all! Which I find quite odd, as the Bible is, without question, the best manual ever written about how to live free. Howsoever that may be, there is an interesting debate going on in a group that I listen to closely. Please, let us follow the discussion for just a moment.

Dave said; 2 Tim 3:16, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Its very simple, the Bible here and in many other places and ways claims 2 things. One that it is the word of God, two, that it was written/inspired by God.

Logic: 1) if thats true, then one of its (and Gods) attributes is completeness, truthfulness, no error, no inconsistency.

2) if this is not true, then throw it out because it just perjured itself.

Berkano; Interesting. ..you must accept the whole bible as the inerrant word of God, is what you are stating Dave. Can you tell me where in your bible it states this?

And the bible was not written in a single day. It did not exist in Jesus' day. So when a book was added here and a book was added there, who determined which version of that book was the final, inerrent version, and since the book itself does not speak of which version, and the book itself does not state which books included are inerrent, perfect truth--the truth of the matter had to be found somewhere outside that book.

The "somewhere outside that book" is either the mind of a man or the truth of God. Which is it?

The bible is actually a work of men, declared by men, not by God, to be God's only word and the only source of truth. These men set the bible up as God, and deny his power to reveal the truth in his way, in his time, at his pleasure.

Dave said; Its not my opinion, it's what the Bible says/teaches.

Berkano; You are applying what the apostle said about writings to the whole bible. The apostle does not mention his own writings or anything after the OT and Essene books. And the bible does not claim to be the word of god. The apostle says that scripture is given by inspiration. ..scripture is given BY the word of God, yet it is NOT the word of God. you can't even figure out that the inspiration (revelation, the rock), not the book, is the word of God. You are stretching this verse way beyond its meaning to justify your idolatry of worshipping a book and using it to replace inspiration in your own life. And your quote debunks your argument this time, too. All scripture is profitable for reproof, correction.. .which is what I and people like me use it for from time to time...to correct erroneous beliefs that hinder a man from relying on God. Relying on a book is placing that book between you and the Creator.

And I know why you cling to this silly belief--you do not consider yourself able to approach God. You hate yourself and think that thereby this will keep you from danger. Since you can't approach God, the next best thing you have is a book to cling to. That book says, if any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God who gives to all men liberally... If you ask God and he answers, that is his word, his revelation, his inspiration, for you. What use is it to ask God for wisdom if the book already has all wisdom?

Berkano

What is being said here is very well supported by my own life. I have 9 different Bibles, in which there are enough differences to start more cults than anyone would care to see. So, beyond doubt, we have no verifiable Word of God, which is why we are told that IT IS WRITTEN IN YOUR HEART. We know what is right, and what is wrong, and it is our duty to research and learn, BUT apply what we learn according to what we know to be right and wrong.

And ask God for guidance at all times and in all cases. He does answer. He always has if you just ask.

Sums up my view on the matter completely.

My pleasure. Listening to the debate in the other group was good for me; made me remember what is important, and where not to put my trust! Sometimes we forget, and need to be reminded.... at least, I do.

I am glad that you enjoyed the post. I did as well, as I was listening to the discussion in the other group. Makes me remember that there is a LOT of knowledge in many different places out there! And, a lot of really smart people.... just not many of them in public life.
