Jose Padilla, a U.S. citizen,

has been detained for four years without formal charges, much of it in solitary confinement. He is now a broken human being:

Saying that there was ’sufficient cause” to conduct a competency hearing, the government, in papers filed yesterday, urged the judge to do so.

The government itself cited the affidavit of a psychiatrist for the defense, Dr. Angela Hegarty, who said that Mr. Padilla did not understand the nature and consequences of the proceedings against him and that he suffered “impairment in reasoning” as a result of post-traumatic stress disorder “complicated by the effects of prolonged isolation.”

Mr. Padilla’s lawyers said he opposed this request that his competency be evaluated. Dr. Hegarty, one of two mental health professionals who examined him, said Mr. Padilla was “fearful of being thought of as crazy.” She described him as “hypervigilant,” his eyes darting about, his face twitching into grimaces, his “startle response” on constant high alert.

The original accusations against him — “about the dirty bomb, Al Qaeda connections and supposed plans to set off natural gas explosions in apartment buildings — appear nowhere in the indictment against him.”

Down the memory hole and make up new charges- doesn't matter- the goobers will eat it up. Anything to protect them from the Islamic Hordes coming to kill them in their gutted Walmart/MacDonalds "towns".

Could just as easily have those flesh puppets on "Fox and Friends" do a week's worth of stories about the cookie monster threat and pretty soon Freepers would be writing posts about how the "liberals" want to let the cookie monsters win and Limbaugh listeners in Bumbleweed Red State would be quoted in papers about how it is better to "kill the cookie monsters on Seseme Street than have to fight them here."

Yes. That is what Americans are asked to fear and what many do. Now- never mind that the US is seperated from the Islamics by a great ocean and 6000 miles. Never mind that even if the Islamic world was united into a giant global strattling Caliphate from Indonesia to Morrocco and they were as wealthy and industrialized as the United States that they still wouldn't be able to invade us . . . a majority of Americans actually fears that a dis-united jumbled collection of states whose only common bond with each other is adherence to the Moslem religion that varies from the nominal to the extreme and whose collective industrial capacity literally doesn't surpass that of Finland represents a real threat to them and "their way of life."

Now- the only proper reaction to the fact that a great number of Americans believe this nonsense and that indeed- a trillion dollar "defense" budget now rests on the back of this bullshit- is frankly- despair. Despair that as a great number of Americans actually believe in this fairy tale and laughable threat that such belief means this country is not capable of or deserving of liberty or self government.

Just something to keep the goobers and sheeple busy with, while they rob us of our liberties and transfer everything in the US Treasury to their offshore bank accounts.
