Fallout From Saddam's Execution The Scoop From Key Arabic-Language Web Sites By ZEYAD Posted 9 hr. 45 min. ago Aswat Al-Iraq News Agency (Voices of Iraq): Two members of Iraqi parliament demanded an investigation into the "provocative sectarian behavior" that was demonstrated during the execution of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein. MP Hussein Al-Falluji (Sunni), of the Iraqi Accord Front, called for forming a parliamentary committee to investigate the final moments of the execution and the exchange between Saddam and officials who witnessed the execution. He added that the constitution requires for the head of state to sign execution orders, while Iraqi trial laws prohibit scheduling executions on religious and official holidays. MP Safiya Al-Suhail, a member of Ayad Allawi's Al-Iraqiya bloc, had protested yesterday the political and sectarian exchange inside the execution chamber and demanded to know how those responsible had entered the room. Head of the Sadrist bloc in parliament, MP Nassar Al-Rubai'I, had described the slogans heard on the video as "individual behavior" that has nothing to do with the Sadrist bloc. He added that the slogans were possibly dubbed into the video in order to smear the Sadrist bloc.

The Sadrist Nahrain Net website recounts a different story of Saddam's final moments, allegedly reported by an American general to Western diplomats in Baghdad this morning. According to the website, the American general said that Saddam was shivering uncontrollably around midnight and they had to administer a high dose of sedatives for him to regain composure. Saddam also begged to speak to any American official, saying that he alone can rule Iraq and destroy Al-Qaeda and Shi'ite militias. The general adds that Saddam was warning them of the danger of Iran and the Shia in Iraq, promising that he can defeat Iran and spread stability in the region. It should be noted that Nahrain Net was down for a few hours yesterday. The website posted a notice saying that it was hacked by "Takfiris and terrorists."

The New Iraq Centre for Media Studies in London posted a bizarre, outlandish report purportedly from an Iraqi journalist who witnessed Saddam's burial at his hometown of Al-Ouja, near Tikrit. According to the journalist, a senior member of Saddam's tribe, Al-Bu Nasir, asked to see Saddam's face before his body was laid in the grave. The relative opened the shroud and immediately recoiled back in shock and horror, shouting, "Bury him! Bury him!" The journalist said that Saddam's face resembled that of a wild hog that is rampant near Al-Ouja and is feared by its inhabitants. The journalist, who also works as a translator for U.S. troops, said that an unusual rotten stench was emanating from Saddam's corpse, which required his relatives to cover him with double the amount of soil. Several Shi'ite websites also published this report from the unnamed journalist.

The editorial board of the Al-Iraq News Net website condemns Hizbullah's Al-Manar satellite channel, which it described as "Nasrallah's sectarian channel," because it celebrated the execution of "the martyr who was killed by Safavids." It also condemns the Sadrist Movement because "its members were jumping up and down like monkeys during the execution, proving they are dwarves and unmanly."

The Iraqi Rabita website posts a message from Salam Abdul Hadi, a man in Karbala who said his brother was executed by Saddam's regime, which claims that an American official who oversaw the execution requested a 39-foot rope to use for the hanging. The significance, the website says, is that 39 is the number of Scud missiles Saddam fired at Israel during the 1991 Gulf War. The Iraqi Rabita had condemned Saddam's execution and explains that even though they never supported him or his policies, they acknowledged that Saddam Hussein was a leader who never betrayed his people nor cooperated with foreign occupiers; he eradicated illiteracy and nationalized Iraq's oil industry and he went to the gallows with his head high, while those who signed his execution order had divided Iraq, killed over 600,000 of its people, plunged it into civil war, and cooperated with foreigners and facilitated the invasion of their country.
