Not the America we know

15 January 2007

TO MANY of us, America’s greatnesses is the importance it accords to individual freedom and the rule of law, ideals that it sought to spread around the world in the past, and with great success. That the Bush administration, however, acts differently is not a secret.

To coincide with the 5th anniversary of Guantanamo Bay prison, a senior Pentagon official has called on major US companies to boycott legal firms that take up the defence of the Bay detainees. For one, those detained at the Bay had for long been denied their right to defence; they won that right after years of detention, and possible harassment, thanks to the pressure that was brought to bear on the Bush administration by civil rights groups within America itself.

For another, all those detained at the Bay are suspects; and cannot be called criminals. That many of them have been set free in due course is proof of their innocence. Thus it’s safe to assume that more innocents might be languishing in the cells there. All the more reason why they deserve credible legal defence.

In civilised societies, even criminals are given a fair chance to defend themselves before pronouncing sentence. That’s what the due process is all about.

Legal experts and advocacy groups are right in their assertion that the official, by making this statement has implicitly gone to the extent of intimidating law firms that provide legal help to the Bay defendants.

These are really difficult times, also seen from the way a popular trial of a dictator was conducted by a kangaroo court in Iraq, and the way “justice was meted out” there-a land where America went in with the stated purpose of “spreading the ideals of freedom, democracy and justice”.

Not the America we know

it is quite a shocking readjustment trying to get to know the america of today rather than the one we knew from our childhood.

know the america of today rather than the one we knew from our childhood.

Non-sense, and balderdash. The America of today is exactly the same as the America of your childhood; you are simply more aware today than you were then. If you go back and read up on what the IRS was doing to people, and how many thousands of people they stole everything they owned AND put many of them in prison, then, then read about some of the times that the IRS ARBITARILLY sent out collection notices to thousands of people in areas of the country where the gov. wished to cut down the amount of money in circulation, and, thousands of people, out of fear, simply paid the collection notice without a whimper.

You can do this type of research on farming (America has lost more than 25 million farms since 1950), food (study the FDA), drugs (control of the leagal and illegal drugs is and always has been controlled from London), medicine (need any clues here?) and on and on and on. Endlessly, all of which has been going on for decades. Nothing that is coming to frutation today began today; it all has roots that go back into the early parts of the 20th century, AND, we the people are responsible.

I put a post in 4um that most people did not like; The Government is not violating the Constitution. Many read it, almost no one wanted to discuss it, and I understand that, because what it showed is that WE, the people, are the ones violating the Constitution; NOT the government. And that has been going on for quite some time, so, please, do not make such silly statements as today is somehow different from before.

there's a lot of truth to what you say. The evil clique has been I personally think near the top of power here in America since the 1700's. but it has moved into power since then and then after that greatly increased its power & consolidated. So when we were children it was much harder to see. the other america was much stronger. our people were so good once upon a time I believe anyway. things have changed in that the evil is much more up-front, the people much more damaged by it.

I believe that we were once truly a great nation and a good nation.

we were once truly a great nation

This is true, but it ended when the people lost the knowledge of what America was, a republic, and bought into the non-snese of benefits from the government. The people then left America and joined into the democracy centered in the United States, i.e., Washington, DC; THIS IS OUR FAULT, AND IT CAME ABOUT BECAUSE OF IGNORANCE ON THE PART OF AMERICANS. And, in large part, it occured because of the control of public education by the feds.

I will not disagree with you, I think you're generally correct. it is a difficult message to hear that you have.

my only defense of the Americans I can offer is to say that they are fallen, they are flawed, and so are the other people on this earth.

IMHO the greatness we did once achieve was given to us by creator. and now that's been removed and we're allowed to fall into the clutches of the evil ones who've been allowed to win.

Somewhere in bible it says that the properties of each nation are determined by god. and that nations rise up & fall at the will of god. and that this is done for his purpose.

it makes for a great story-line for the people of the world to gossip over. so that they will see the things that they should learn.

I agree with your view on the democracy & the public schools. democracy is an idol of man, I reject it.
