Vat-grown muscle is tomorrow's disembodied meat

Snip from Times UK item "Will the Petri dish put Daisy out to grass?":

In 2002 scientists at Touro College in the US removed some muscle from the abdomen of an anaesthetised goldfish and placed it in a saline solution enriched with foetal calf serum.

The muscle reportedly grew by 15 per cent in a few weeks. It was then coated in breadcrumbs and lightly sautéed in olive oil: scientists said that the resulting dish “smelled good”.

However, they did not eat it.

Link to story (thanks, Clayton). Image borrowed from "Disembodied Cuisine," by the Tissue Culture and Art Project. This biological art project appeared in a show called "L’art Biotech" in Nantes, France, in 2003. If you like this, don't miss their "victimless leather."

Here's why this shit won't fly.

For one, it takes a few years of moving around to make muscle tissue have any kind of consistency that isn't like jello.

You might as well be eating tofu, or fried jello if you're going to eat this shit.

This country's priorities are all fucked up.

years ago, a text called the 'dulce papers' made its rounds. in it, it was claimed the illegitimate US govt rogue agencies had built an underground facility round the dulce mesa, and locals have many strange stories to tell.

anyway, this thing is like nine stories deep, with super clearance needed to access the last two levels.

interestingly, one of the things that was reported from the 'nightmare levels', levels where genetic experiments take place resulting in half human/animal monstrosities, is vats of manufactured 'meat'...

of course, this is all fantastic nonsense...till, much in the typical way off world tech is slowly introduced into the marketplace as 'our own'....this stuff now comes to light as 'nasa research' for deep space travel, etc.

very interesting.

is it true?

if not, whoever wrote the dulce papers is one hell of a prophet.
