The City of London is an autonomous part of London, that contains the financial nerve center of the world. It is often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 square kilometres) in area.

The City of London has a resident population under 9,000 but a daily working population around 300,000. The City itself has two independent enclaves within it 52; Inner Temple and Middle Temple. These two areas form part of the City and Ceremonial county, but are not governed by the Corporation of London. The Corporation govern the rest of the City and also owns various open spaces (parks, forests and commons) in and around London.

Everyone who understands world politics, knows the fate of the world is constantly being decided in that Square Mile, that is under control of the Bank of England, which is itself run by the Rothschild dynasty. Everyone who understands world politics, knows that an alliance of Brittish arristocrats jewish bankers and both English and jewish corporate managers run the world from that tiny area. Wall Street, Downing Street and Pensylvania Avenue are all directly or indirectly run from here, by numerous agents, representatives or whatever they call their lackeys. With this post, I'd like to illustrate the unique status of the so-called Square Mile.

the Lord Mayor of London

The City of London is run by the Lord Mayor of London. The Lord Mayor of London is to be distinguished from the Mayor of London, who is the mayor of Greater London. Within the City of London, the Lord Mayor has precedence over other individuals and has various special powers, rights and privileges.

The Lord Mayor is elected by Common Hall, a body of representatives of the City's Livery Companies. The 107 Livery Companies are trade associations based in the City of London, each known as the Worshipful Company of the relevant trade or profession. The Livery Companies originally developed as guilds and were responsible for the regulation of their trades, controlling, for instance, wages and labour conditions. The most important Livery Companies are "The Worshipful Company of Mercers" (General Merchants) and "The Worshipful Company of Grocers". Common Hall is summoned by the sitting Lord Mayor; it meets at Guildhall on Michaelmas Day (29 September) or on the closest weekday. Voting is by show of hands; if, however, any liveryman so demands, balloting is held a fortnight later.

The Lord Mayor is presiding member of the City of London's governing bodies : Commission of Lieutenancy (which represents the Sovereign in the City of London) and the Corporation of London (incorporated as The Mayor and Commonalty and Citizens of the City of London). The Corporation comprises the Court of Aldermen and the Court of Common Council; the former includes only the Aldermen, while the latter includes both Aldermen and Common Councilmen. The Lord Mayor is a member of and presides over both bodies. He further performs numerous other functions: - Chief Magistrate of the City of London - Admiral of the Port of London - Chancellor of City University - President of City of London Reserve Forces and Cadets Association - Trustee of St Paul's Cathedral.

Sheriffs, who serve as assistants to the Lord Mayor, are chosen on Midsummer Day (June 24). The Lord Mayor, who must have previously been a Sheriff, is chosen on Michaelmas (29 September). On the day after taking office, the Lord Mayor's Show is held; the Lord Mayor, preceded by a procession, travels to the City of Westminster to swear allegiance to the Sovereign in the presence of the judges of the High Court. Both the Lord Mayor and the Sheriffs are chosen for terms of one year.

The Corporation of London

The non-residential vote (or business vote) is an increasingly large part of the electorate of the Corporation. Eligible voters must be at least 18 years old and a citizen of the United Kingdom, a European Union country, or a Commonwealth country, and either: - A resident - A sole trader or a partner in an unlimited partnership or - An appointee of a qualifying body. Each body or organization, whether unincorporated or incorporated, whose premises are within the City of London may appoint a number of voters based on the number of workers it employs. Limited liabilty partnerships fall into this category.

Bodies employing fewer than ten workers may appoint one voter, those employing ten to fifty workers may appoint one voter for every five; those employing more than fifty workers may appoint ten voters and one additional voter for every fifty workers beyond the first fifty.

Though workers count as part of a workforce regardless of nationality, only certain individuals may be appointed as voters. Under section 5 of the City of London (Ward Elections) Act 2002, the following are eligible to be appointed as voters (the qualifying date is September 1 of the year of the election): - Those who have worked for the body for the past year at premises in the City - Those who have served on the body's Board of Directors for the past year at premises in the City - Those who have worked in the City for the body for an aggregate total of five years - Those who have worked for in the City for a total of ten years Qualified voters can vote twice, once at local government elections in the City and once at their home address. Residents of the City can only vote once.

The City of London is divided into twenty-five wards, or electoral divisions. Each ward may elect one Alderman and a number of Councilmen based on the size of the electorate. Wards originally elected aldermen for life, but the term is now only six years. The alderman may, if he chooses, submit to an election before the six-year period ends. In any case, an election must be held no later than six years after the previous election. The qualification for the office is that Aldermen must be Freemen of the City (a Freeman is a person who has been awarded Freedom of the City or "Freedom of the Company" in a Livery Company). Aldermen are also Justices of the Peace and serve in the Court of Common Council.

Each ward may choose a number of common councilmen. A Common Councilman must be a registered voter in his ward, own a freehold or lease land in the City, reside in the City for the year prior to the election, and be a Freeman of the City. Common Council elections are held annually, in March.

The "Temples"

The Middle Temple is one of the four neighbouring Inns of Court exclusively entitled to call their members to the English bar as barristers. (The others are the Inner Temple, Gray's Inn and Lincoln's Inn.) It is near the Royal Courts of Justice, within the City of London but is outside the jurisdiction of the Corporation of London, being a historic extra-parochial area.

Following the separation of canon law and common law in the 13th century, the Inns of Courts originated as hostels and schools for the emerging class of lawyers. The Middle Temple is the western part of "The Temple", the headquarters of the Knights Templar until they were dissolved in 1312; the awe-inspiring Temple Church still stands as a Royal Peculiar and the parish church of the Inner and Middle Temples. There has never been an "Outer Temple", apart from a modern office block of that name - an order of 1337 refers to repairing the lane "through the middle of the Court of the Temple", which became known as Middle Temple Lane and presumably gave its name to the Inn.

Since the 14th century, the Inner Temple, like Middle Temple, has been located adjacent to the Temple Church, which serves as the Inns' chapel. The church was built by the Knights Templar and gives the area around it the name "Temple". It is called the Inner Temple as the church lies within its boundary.

Both the Inner Temple and Middle Temple are independent enclaves (historic extra-parochial areas) physically within the City of London, but not governed by the Corporation of London.
