LINTHICUM, Md. -- The United Methodist Church reversed itself Friday, deciding to reinstate a lesbian minister who was defrocked after revealing her relationship with another woman.

A church panel voted 8 to 1 to set aside an earlier decision to defrock Irene "Beth" Stroud for violating the church's ban on openly gay clergy.

The Philadelphia minister said she was relieved by the ruling and hopes the church will become more inclusive to people regardless of sexual orientation.

After Stroud disclosed the relationship to her congregation two years ago, the church defrocked her, meaning that she could no longer serve communion or baptize anyone. She kept the title of associate minister and worked in a lay capacity at the First United Methodist Church of Germantown in Philadelphia.

"The church is not free to disregard the standards of justice and inclusiveness that are preached by Jesus Christ ... and are a part of church law," Stroud said after church authorities read their decision at a hotel.

"The ruling gives us hope that the United Methodist Church has the resources to do justice," she said.

Apostate churches, one way or another.
Much that once was is lost. For none now live who remember it.

It was either Ellen Degenerate or K.D. Laing

They're Methodists? :P

On a serious note, the Methodist Church has certainly transformed from John Wesley's holiness of heart and life.. has it not?

Like the Lutherans from Luther
If there is really anything "Christian" in today's churches it would surprise them most of all.
Basically what goes on today is feel good jive and guilt assuagement.

The names don't mean much anymore. You must check each individual congregation one by one.

That website chronicles, through daily links/summaries of new stories, the decline of America, whether through the invasion of immigration, or the moral collpase and so forth, reading it for a week is enough, I believe, to ensure anyone will realize the deseperate and advanced state of decline of the erstwhile Republic.

And, we may well be approaching the time when true believers will have to mimic the ways of the first Christians and hold their services in caves and private homes.

What would Jesus say about lesbians??? More importantly, what would Jesus say about Gay Clergy???

Probably the same thing that Leviticus would have said.

The time is closer than you may think.
