A black bear went on a binge at a campsite in the US state of Washington - guzzling down some 36 cans of beer.

Campground workers were stunned to come across the bear sleeping off the effects in their grounds, surrounded by dozens of empty beer cans.

But this was no ordinary case of a bear with a sore head at Baker Lake resort, 80 miles (129km) northeast of Seattle.

He had apparently tried out and rejected the mass-market Busch beer in favour of local brand Rainier.

The bear appeared to have got into campers' cool boxes and used his teeth and claws to puncture the cans.

Beer trap

Fish and wildlife enforcement Sgt Bill Heinck said the bear tried one can of Busch and ignored the rest - then got stuck into three dozen cans of Rainier.

"We noticed a bear sleeping on the common lawn and wondered what was going on until we discovered that there were a lot of beer cans lying around," camp worker Lisa Broxson was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

She said the bear was chased away by wildlife agents, but returned the next day.

The agents decided to trap the bear with doughnuts, honey and, of course, two cans of Rainier beer. It did the trick and he was captured.

"This is a new one on me," Sgt Heinck said in an Associated Press report. "I've known them to get into cans, but nothing like this. And it definitely had a preference."

I've never liked American beer. Even in high school, I'd take hideous wine like Boone's Farm or Annie Green Springs over beer. This article reminds me of a joke: a man sends his beer to be analyzed, and gets back a note: "Sorry, your horse has diabetes."

Funny story but I think it's not new. I read this before. Unless it happened again.

It's probably an old story but I didn't run across it until last night.

I've had Rainier before, and that's nothing to brag about...not much body to it. But hell would have to freeze over before I would touch an Anheuser-Busch product. My wife and I both prefer a nice cold Pilsner Urquell. I understand it's a 'marketing thing', but I get a kick out of how beer is displayed in a grocery store. I told my wife that there is a regulation that mandates stores keep REAL beer separate from that 'domestic sh*t'.

It is obvious to me that this bear is a Democrat!! Why else would he refuse to drink Bush beer. After all the original spelling of Bush was Busch. He did drink one can of Busch beer and repent of his sins. Besides he is what we in California call a welfare bear as opposed to a real bear that stays out of tourist parks.

I've never liked American beer.

The best beer I ever had was a Greek beer named FIX which was started by a German brewer when Greece got herself a German as a king.

FIX since went out of business - unable to compete in a freemarket with European imports into Greece. FIX has since been revived but I don't know if it is the same formula as the original.

For my father's 60th birthday, I have been on a quest to find "his favorite beer of all time" as a present. The beer is a Greek beer called Fix (Hellas brewers) and I finally had some when I was in Greece this past summer and, he was right, it IS good.

Rainier tastes horrible, worse then other rice beers like Budweiser and Miller. I pity the bear.
