Then that story takes on a deeper and more practical meaning. Many city states had similar systems to keep the people loyal. If you fled in the face of an enemy you fled with useless script. You had to support the system or suffer destitution. The people were not bound together in faith, hope, and charity but by loyalty to their central bank and the men who controlled it. This warps society. Moses knew this. The fact is Abraham, John the Baptizer and Jesus all knew these things. We need to learn what they were really doing and why and then we need to implement those precepts in our own lives, communities and efforts. For the first millennium after Christ it was a predominant form of government in Europe but you would not know that from reading modern history books. Besides the central banking and control that had again established itself in the Roman government and Judea there were other things subjecting the people. It is not enough to network together but we need to understand and learn about the pitfalls or stubblingblocks that have broken such social networks in the past. The true knowledge of history and the legacy of what has gone before can aid us in our quest for life liberty and a free pursuit of happiness. All the problems of society have been confronted in the past and overcome by those who are committed to knowing and living the truth. The bonds of society must be dependent on some things which are stronger than mere ideas. This is the secret of freedom under God as opposed to bondage under men.
