For those of you who don't know who Johnny and Edgar Winter are, they are something that has never existed in the past and will never exist in the future -- two brothers, both albino, both Texan, both superb bluesmen. Edgar is the better known, since he had two hits -- "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride." This is one of the best versions of "Johnny B. Goode" I have ever heard.

thanks for that interesting history on these 2 guys. I just vaguely knew of them, have heard them. But I didn't know they were from TX.

They've been around since the early '60s, back when they both had short hair. I think this video is from the late '60s.

Johnny is singing and Edgar is on drums.

In high school my hair was as long as Johnny's ;-)

Never knew that, this is a great rendition.

I wasn't aware of how many albinos there are.

Quite a few, but what are the chances of two albino brothers from Texas who can sing and play several instruments, have never been that well-known, and can kick out the jams they way they do?

One of the most significant aspects of both men's work, however, was the fact that it revealed a deep respect for the African-American blues tradition, incorporating many of its elements, despite significant racial barriers that existed at the time. Also, rather than trying to downplay their unusual looks, the Winter brothers embraced them, using them to fuel their flashy rock-star image.

Johnny is singing and Edgar is on drums.

Correction, Edgar is playing the piano.

And, I met a squid from NYC who told me that whenever the bros played the city all the gays turned out.

"The Winters are for fags" he said.

The pic I saw of Johnny naked and laying on top of a naked man while French kissing pretty well confirmed it for me.

EDIT: My hair was longer than both of theirs! ;)

THEY ONLY COME OUT AT NIGHT album.

I got it when it first came out. "Edgar Winter's White Trash." What a name for a band.

I heard Johnny in concert in 1969 and he was playing through 3 Fender Twin Reverb amps, (Ric Derringer played through 3 also) and they just barely cut the VA BEACH convention center. (That was before the days of miking everything thru the PA)

Humble Pie opened with Marshal stacks and they were plenty loud.

It was Johnny's version of Johnny B. Goode that I learned and I was a big fan until I heard that gay stuff.

I mean, I wouldn't want to be known as a Scissor Sisters clone today, would you?

In this case, genius forgives genius...so I forgive Johnny.

I understand but, if you saw that pic you'd know how disappointed I felt.

I mean, two skinny, naked, boney-assed men coupled with their tongues touching, in B&W no less.

Ugh.

He went from "cool" to "Johnny who?" that fast.

He should have kept it hidden. I mean, after all, it wasn't like he was Liberace or something.

He should have kept it hidden. I mean, after all, it wasn't like he was Liberace or something.

I was 17 when I listened to his album and loved his playing, and people recognized his tunes immediately when I played them.

I wasn't the only young impressionable guitarist who looked up to him. But, the last thing I needed was to find out that he had a gay following in the city, like The Dolls or Blondie.

I had to cut him loose and I dropped the song GOOD MORNIN LITTLE SCHOOL GIRL from my playlist.
