Department of Homeland Security requires internal passport for all US Citizens

The paranoia-inducing 27B Stroke 6 blog reports that the Department of Homeland Security has issued its requirements for standardizing state identification cards.

States must start issuing the new internal passports by May 2008, or else their citizens will not be able to board planes or enter federal courthouses...

DHS estimates that it will take only 44 minutes for a current driver's license holder to get a certified copy of their birth certificate, travel to the DMV and get a new license when it expires. No current driver's license holder will be allowed to renew a license by mail. They estimate the costs to states and individuals over 10 years will be $23 billion.

Congress may move to negate this ruling by repealing the Act or reverting to an earlier process.

I'll bet the Democrat-controlled Congress will let the DHS have its way without much of a fight. Link

Here's the thing about the National ID Card that nobody is actually talking about.

Let's say you're a guy who gets one of these things. Over the next couple of years, it will not only be your ID card, but your means to access your bank accounts and such. Credit will flow through your ID card, and not only will the banks and credit agencies be able to communicate more effectively through your card, they'll be able to track your every move, and be able to stop funds at the drop of a hat.

Let's say you're one of these guys, and you have all your financial stuff tied to this card. The SECOND you run afoul of the IRS, they can stop you from doing ANYTHING. They can literally bankrupt you, and on top of that, steal your ability to freely travel all at the same time.

It's going to be used as an aid to keep people from fleeing justice, or what I would call perceived justice at the hands of the state. The worst part about this scenario, is how it will be sold to the masses over the next year or so. People will be begging for this new ID card, and will literally trip over themselves to get one, because they'll want to be special, they'll want to be part of the in crowd.

This isn't about safety, or figuring out who is legally, and illegally in this country. It's not about protecting the citizens, because 6 years after 9-11 they still haven't closed the borders to the illegal aliens who can do literally anything they want without fear of reprisal. They can go get a bank account without any documentaion. They can drive without any proof of insurance and or documentation. They can go to work, without any documentation, and yet WHO PAYS THE COST???? The American Citizenry.

If this ID card were about protecting the country, and about knowing who belongs here, and who doesn't, THEY'D BE HANDING THESE CARDS TO ILLEGAL ALIENS SO THEY WOULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO FREELY TRAVEL IN THIS COUNTRY, AS OPPOSED TO THE CITIZENS WHO ACTUALLY BELONG HERE.

The people will fall for this shit, and there will be pressure brought to bear. I promise folks we're going to get this ID card whether we like it or not, and it has nothing to do with making sure your identity is safe.

Dying for old bastards, and their old money, isn't my idea of freedom.
