Sex offender fired from job as youth prison guard in Texas AUSTIN, Texas A Texas youth prison correctional officer who is a convicted sex offender has been fired.
The firing comes after the state sent law enforcement officials to all 22 of the state's youth facilities and to the commission's headquarters to investigate claims of sexual abuse of inmates by employees.
The commission's acting executive director says an employee told officials months ago that the officer was a sex offender, but officials didn't act on the matter.
The facility is run by a private contractor. A spokesman says the agency's contracts with the private operators prohibit hiring registered sex offenders, but he says the agency doesn't have direct control over who is hired.
