Greenspan: Let more skilled immigrants in

By Bloomberg News | March 14, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan said allowing more skilled immigrants to work in the United States would help keep the income gap from widening.

Inequality of incomes is the "critical area where capitalist systems are most vulnerable," Greenspan said yesterday in Washington at a conference on maintaining the competitiveness of US capital markets convened by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. "You cannot have a system that we have unless the people who participate in it believe it is just."

Allowing more skilled workers into the country would bring down the salaries of top earners in the United States, easing tensions over the mounting wage gap, Greenspan said.

"Our skilled wages are higher than anywhere in the world," he said. "If we open up a significant window for skilled workers, that would suppress the skilled-wage level and end the concentration of income."

Income inequality has risen in the past three decades.

Kathleen Newland, director of the Migration Policy Institute, a Washington think tank, said she was skeptical of Greenspan's proposal. "In theory, increased skilled immigration should help contain wage rises at higher levels, but there is little empirical evidence," she said. "If you want to reduce political concern, it would be better to deal with the problem by helping to raise the wages of the lowest earners, by helping to improve productivity and raising the minimum wage."

At least it's in the open now.

Alan Greenspan said allowing more skilled immigrants to work in the United States would help keep the income gap from widening

Bringing in skilled workers only makes native born educated men and wonen over 50 unemployable. 3 1/2 million men and women dropped out of the work force since 2000. Most of the new jobs go to illegal aliens unless they require skill. Then they go to the legal aliens. And a lot of jobs are going to the children of the illegals. In fact in 1988 I met a Mexican girl who years ago was making $8.10 an hour when she first started work before she got her promotion. When she quit, there were so many young girls who were the daughters of illegal aliens and were looking for work that the entry level wage dropped to $5.10 an hour. When our company decided to move their warehouse from Silicon Vally to northern Kentucky, we offered regular California wages to the locals. They could not hire anyone at all until they raised the hourly rates $1.50 to $2.00 an hour. There are so many illegal aliens here that only high tech pays anything at all. Whenever I see a roofing job being done, I only hear Spanish on the job. And now Greenspan wants to fire the remaining few white people with jobs. It will make us all equal. All workers will be getting the minimum wage.

Just what the hell did people think Bush meant when he said he wanted to level the playing field? It is about lowering our standard of living to match theirs, not the other way around.

It will be a damned shame when these globalist fuckheads finally screw the wrong demographic and start catching some bullets, won't it? Don't know which group that will be, but I'll have a hard time getting too upset when body bags start filling up with executives and gated communities of McMansions start burning.

We are for the the salaries companies are currently paying.

Entrepreneurship is the only way to survive in a high tech field in America now.
