"We should gum this to death," Sampson wrote to a White House aide on Dec. 19. "ask the senators to give Tim a chance . . . then we can tell them we'll look for other candidates, ask them for recommendations, evaluate the recommendations, interview their candidates, and otherwise run out the clock. All of this should be done in 'good faith,' of course."

In other words, screw the Senate, we'll do whatever we want and laugh in their faces. This is going to make the Senate very, very happy. I'll drop everything the day they grill Sampson, who can't avoid a subpoena now.

Putting good faith in quotes is really all you need to know about the ethics and morality of this pack of jackals.

This quote is suddenly all over the place. They read it on NPR, and Tucker on MSNBC had a whole segment on it, calling it stupid and outrageous. The GOP hack he had on had the good grace to look embarassed while spewing his "they serve at the pleasure of the president" talking points.

This is getting legs. It shows how the entire administration thinks. Good faith is meaningless. As Tucker put it, they're celebrating bad faith.

The obstinate and imperious nature of the King gave great advantages to those who advised him to be firm, to yield nothing, and to make himself feared. One state maxim had taken possession of his small understanding, and was not to be dislodged by reason.

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections.

Speaking of Bush's thought processes, that's Thomas Babington Macaulay on James II.

Katrina was America's Chernobyl.
