BREAKING: CBS News Says Gonzales To Be Sacked

by Steve Singiser [Subscribe]
Fri Mar 16, 2007 at 03:33:29 PM PDT

According to CBS Evening News, AG Alberto Gonzales will be fired within days. They also report that Bush is in a "pugnacious" mood (does he have another kind of mood, by the way??), but that it is a "foregone conclusion" that Gonzales is on his way to the door.

CBS News is also reporting that the performance reviews for the fired US Attorneys were rife with positive reports. Snow looked pretty bad defending this earlier today.

Another "Headline News" moment that the Bush-itters would probably like to forget. Good...they deserve nothing less.

I myself heard Katie Couric say this on the CBS Evening News (which happened to be on in the gym.)

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

gonzales has been in the white house since 2001 and he's done a lot. maybe he wanted to switch jobs. they have to have a way of letting some of the people assume that the government is responsive to the people. this is likely one of those means without really being responsive.

one thing I notice about the Valerie Plame affair is that I've read in multiple sources that people actually died over this leak. I read multiple times that maybe 100 undercover people under Plame who were non-Americans had their cover blown as a result of this leak, and some of them were killed over this. Yet the media never mentions this. I mean it was a serious crime to leak the Plame info and it is really not treated as such in the media.

Hey, Red, got some links on this? I did a little searching on this a while ago, but didn't turn up much. This is a really important point.

and some of them were killed over this.

There are suspected deaths, but none confirmed that I know of. But some scientists in certain countries, particularly Pakistan, have disappeared. Not known if they met with Plame, but even having dinner with her or one of her fellow operatives who were outed along with her due to the Brewster Jennings connection, would be enough to get you strangled quietly in a lot of countries.

Considering his previous AG was a man who lost his senate seat to a dead guy, I wouldn't expect Gonzo's replacement to be much of an improvement.

no I don't have a link. I just remember that the summer the story broke 2004 there were multiple articles that did say people died over this. And I don't understand why this is not mentioned in media today.

I remember that there were 5-6 top newspapers in America writing about this story all summer of 2004 and yet it had zero mention on tv. So the majority of Americans I'd tell about it felt it was a false story (one of those internet myths). and then the mainstream media decided to make it a massive story in September of that year.

maybe 100 undercover people under Plame who were non-Americans had their cover blown as a result of this leak, and some of them were killed over this.

Only Americans are humans whose deaths we mourn. All other inhabitants of the planet are just in the way of the natural resources we wish to steal.

To narrow it down even further, only about the top 10 percent of Americans in terms of wealth and income really matter. This is why Bush only half in jest referred to his "base" as the "haves" and the "have mores."

So we're talking about maybe 30 million people in this country having the "divine right" to dictate to the other 6.5 billion how and/or whether to live or die.

This is what VPW said yesterday in her testimony before Congress:

'Lives are at stake'

The harm that is done when a CIA cover is blown is grave but I can't provide details beyond that in this public hearing.

But the concept is obvious. Not only have breaches of national security endangered CIA officers, it has jeopardized and even destroyed entire networks of foreign agents who, in turn, risk their own lives and those of their families to provide the United States with needed intelligence.

Lives are literally at stake. Every single one of my former CIA colleagues, from my fellow covert officers to analysts to technical operations officers to even the secretaries, understand the vulnerabilities of our officers and recognize that the travesty of what happened to me could happen to them.

We in the CIA always know that we might be exposed and threatened by foreign enemies.

It was a terrible irony that administration officials were the ones who destroyed my cover.

Furthermore, testimony in the criminal trial of Vice President Cheney's former chief of staff, who has now been convicted of serious crimes, indicates that my exposure arose from purely political motives.

Within the CIA it is essential that all intelligence be evaluated on the basis of its merits and actual credibility. National security depends upon it.

The tradecraft of intelligence is not a product of speculation.

I feel passionately as an intelligence professional about the creeping, insidious politicizing of our intelligence process.

All intelligence professionals are dedicated to the ideal that they would rather be fired on the spot than distort the facts to fit a political view -- any political view or any ideology.

well I'd just say that even if these deaths are not confirmed (as Mekons4 said), then this is an extremely serious crime. If anybody had their cover blown and was exposed to such risk of being murdered as a result, this is a huge crime. The law is aware of that. But the media didn't seem to play up that aspect, but ignored it. This was a huge crime by the Bush admin and when the media made it a big story they left out this one aspect of the crime. That is reminiscent of how there were so many crimes & corruption under Clinton and then the media focused on the Monica story in order to downplay the rest.

Galatians 3:29 And if ye [be] Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

thanks for those quotes from Valerie's testimony. She is one good looking babe for her age.

I wouldn't be surprised if she's been told not to mention any deaths for national security reasons. and I wouldn't be surprised if the media is the same way. I remain convinced that people died over it based on earlier stories I did read. (wish I had links).

It is a chilling message to all CIA operatives in reality. fascism marches.

No smoking guns here Red, but here are few links that support the thesis that the Plame outing targeted both:

- Wilson for the cold water that he poured on the Niger uranium story and

- Plame for the hard intelligence her networks could have provided us on what is REALLY going on within Iran's nuclear industry.

In order to whack Iran, it's going to be necessary to generate the appropriate proganda required to justify an attack. Hard headed assessments of what's actually afoot in Iran might well get in the way of the perceptions that Bush and his handlers would like to create in the minds of the public.
