Title: Rush dying to go to Iraq...unlike when he COULD have gone to Nam

And some people wonder why I call him Pigboy.

RUSH: I totally understand this. How old is your son?

CALLER: He's 19.

RUSH: Your son is 19. If I'm 18, 19, 17, I volunteered for this. I'm joining the Marines. I want to be on the front lines. I want to be the first group in. I want to go to Iraq. Despite everything that's been said about this mission in the media, despite four years of the drumbeat of defeat and, "It's not possible," we still have young men like your son signing up for this all over the country. I have to believe that when they see what the Democrats in the House are doing and how they're smiling and gloating over securing what they think is defeat, I have to totally understand how they would be angered about this and fit to be tied. But the bottom line is: even after that, they still go, and I'll betcha they go even more fired up than otherwise.

Go read the whole transcript. It has something to do with Democrats don't want to win a war. It's puke-inducing.

How many people still listen to this guy's radio show?

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

I wonder the same.

Talk radio ratings from independent sources seem hard to come by.

I've read a couple articles on Hannity being shifted to non-live hours because of declining ratings.

Our own AM flame-thrower, WJR...only broadcasts 2 hours of his three hour show.

No, I just can't see that the 'old rush' audience (and I was one back in 1988) is still around in the numbers that "they" claim.

Perhaps that is the clue, "that they claim"...

How the hell do you measure over the air, AM radio ratings, I ponder?

Great response from over on DU board

Apologies for the language, but this really makes me sick. I had a friend who was 19 years old, who joined the Marines after graduation and went to Iraq. He didn't do it for the glory or the excitement of being on the front lines - he did it because he wanted to help people. He wanted to go to Iraq so somebody's husband or father wouldn't have to. And he was killed over there on Valentine's Day of this year. Dead at age 19; buried seven months to the day before what would have been his twentieth birthday. My friend understood what war was and what sacrifice meant, and he went all the way and made the ultimate sacrifice. And I will not have a parasitic coward like Rush Limbaugh throwing blanket statements around about how all 19-year-olds want in on the "excitement" on the front lines of Iraq, because even if that's true in some cases, it's not true in all and for him to say shit like that trivializes the true motives and real honor of people like my friend. People who, in a mere 19 years of life, had more manliness, more integrity, and more honor than a cowardly blowhard asshat like Rush Limbaugh will EVER have. So shut the fuck up, Rush. Now.

Your friend's son is more mature than most 19 year olds. Most 19 year olds - especially boys - are too immature at that age to know what they want to do in life. And that's why they are so vulnerable to the schtick that military recruiters give them. For that reason alone military recruiters should not be allowed on high school campuses - they're stealing candy from babies - kids who can't drink legally because "the state" is looking out for their best health interests, but hey, letting recruiters in to coax these boys to sign contracts that are a matter of life and death is a okay with Uncle Sam.

I'd like fatso desk warriors like Hannity and Rush and Savage and Levine to get themselves into uniforms and go to Iraq. They could do humanitarian stuff to help "the fledgling democracy:" they are always crowing about.

Young 19 years should be in college or at technical training school to build a career so they can get married and raise a family - they represent America's future.

Old farts like Rush are dispensable. They offer America nothing but hot air. Their seed is old. Consequently they should be sent to Baghdad or Kabul and lend a hand there. If these fatboy oldie mogies' lives are lost, it will not affect America's future. The lives of young men are precious human resources to America.

Bush, Cheney and Condi should go with him. I'll contribute the Bring It On Tshirts. And the matchboxes to scrape what's left of them into to ship home. If anyone really cares.
