My daughter, who is 16, applied for early admission at a Great Books college here in Chicago, Shimer College, and was accepted. Then they had a competition for two full four-year scholarships last Saturday. The Dean just called, and Kathleen was one of the winners. It's like hitting the lottery...except it wasn't luck. Enormously proud dad here. She was literally dropping out of high school she was so unhappy, and this place is exactly right for her. She got to meet many of the students and loves the place. There's more than a little relief mixed with the joy.
We're headed out to a fancy restaurant to celebrate!
