The Enemy Within Hormones move in mysterious ways their wonders to perform. As the body’s chemical messengers bring about adaptive physiological responses to environmental change. How elegantly appropriate it would be if, in chaotic and fractal fashion, they served precisely the same purpose on a global scale. Even manufactured substances that mimic hormones, a rogue element as far as we are concerned, may effect adaptive physiological changes. These substances, often called “endocrine disrupters,” disturb normal sexual development in a wide variety of vertebrates, including humans, causing lower sperm counts, undeveloped or malformed genitalia, repeated failure of embryo implantation, and a rising incidence of ectopic pregnancies. They occur in a vast range of commercial products—pesticides, plastics, paints, inks, industrial detergents—and are released as breakdown products. The onslaught of such substances was first brought to public attention in 1962 by Rachel Carson in her momentous book Silent Spring. However, she considered only the toxicity of such chemicals and was unaware of their even more serious long-term hormonal consequences.

Most of the known offenders imitate estrogen, and the impact is therefore most noticeable in males. Under the feminizing influence of these estrogen mimics, genes that are responsible for the production of testosterone in males often fail to switch on. Extensive surveys of male fertility carried out in several developed countries (notably Denmark, Scotland, and France) suggest that the average number of sperm in the ejaculate of a normal man appears to have fallen by up to 50% during the past fifty years. Although the method of analysis used in the surveys was widely criticized, similar sperm count reductions and increasing signs of sexual dysfunction have been detected in several other vertebrates, especially rats, alligators, and birds, and these too seem to have been caused by exposure to artificially produced hormone mimics. The matter was finally put beyond reasonable doubt in January 1997 when a Finnish team compared testicular tissue (taken during postmortem examinations) from men who died suddenly either in 1981 or 1991. In that ten-year period the numbers of men who had normal testicular tissue and healthy sperm production had fallen by more than 50%. As increasing numbers of artificial endocrine become interwoven with whatever endogenous fertility inhibitors constitute the human version of the general adaptive syndrome, it seems likely that the current fertility decline will gradually accelerate.

Driven by such subtle and complex chemistry, our ultimate population decline is likely to remain both inexplicable and beyond remedy. We will see a gradual increase in the incident of biological social dysfunction, as well as rising levels of unproductive sexual behavior, such as homosexuality, lesbianism, and pedophilia, and an increasing heterosexual tendency to postpone or avoid parenthood. The natural fertility brakes are likely to become even more pervasive and pronounced as population pressure increases, social cohesion decays, and environmental degradation mounts.

Although the global fertility rate is now showing signs of significant decline, judging by the current rate of industrialization, our energy consumption will multiply by a factor of 2.5 by the year 2050. The technological factor of the I=PAT equation (Impact = Population x Activity x Technology) thereby promises to compensate for most of the decline in population growth. In other words, as far as the biosphere is concerned, it is almost as though human fertility were not declining at all, suggesting that something other than simple math is manipulating the equation to achieve this convenient end. To lay the blame on human culture is circular reasoning and provides no answer, so we are left facing the intriguing alternative that our predicament betrays the presence of some form of evolutionary genetic management system, mechanism that has automatically locked us into a cultural development that guarantees disaster; perhaps even a Gaian mechanism like the one proposed by Vernadsky, Lovelock, and Margulis.

Reg Morrison, “The Spirit in the Gene” pages 130-134.

=====

- So let us recognize human mysticism for what it really is: the rusting Excalibur of our species, an old and vital streak of genetic madness that once rescued our kind from the brink of extinction, took us to the stars, and will run us through with due dispatch when our little play is done. Ultimately, I have no real argument with mysticism, nor even with the fear and ignorance on which it feeds. The frail, the fearful, and the foolish—these are my kind of animals.

Reg Morrison, last paragraph in “The Spirit in the Gene”.

The Enemy Within

scientists for population reduction

I've often wondered at the stupidity, cupidity and general recklessness behind this trend. You've got companies giving massive doses of estrogen and other hormones to cows so they'll pack on a few more pounds to make a few more bucks at market; or to make cows pump out more milk, and the feed lots are right next to little towns; and then we EAT the meat and drink the milk...

There is no process undertaken to thin the estrogen from the meat or milk, and I don't know how much cooking breaks it down, but since most folks like their milk cold and their steak a little rare, it's not really a pertinent question. As for digestion, isn't estrogen put in birth control PILLS? So it can be absorbed through the stomach, right?

So all these manly "cowboys" who are raising cattle are inadvertently or even recklessly pumping a female hormone into all the manly red-meat eating men out there and all the milk drinking kids, turning them into neutered fruits with shrunken genitalia, impotence problems and low sperm counts. And still Captain Viagra pimps Ruth's Criss Steak House on his radio show, even after getting busted with a pocket full of Viagra in some other impotent loser's name after a trip to a foreign country known for pimping kids.

It's kinda like my take on Imus. He got fired because he was STUPID. Not because he was unfairly witch hunted or pilloried by the uppity Sharpton and Jackson. He got fired for stupidity, because he should have known that was coming.

And if this bovine insanity of feeding each other and our children estrogen gets us killed, too? Purely a result of our own stupidity, and we'll have it coming.

No wonder girls are hitting puberty at age 11. No wonder so many boys fail to develop into men, but become something different.

And the same stupid cowboys who pimp this homo-producing meat turn around and go out "fag bashing" to hide their own twisted homophobic insecurities brought on by not really knowing if they are "women on the inside" or men.

We suspend so many axes over our own heads in our short sighted greed and stupidity. When one finally falls, we will truly deserve the decapitation that follows.

It is not a Justice System. It is just a system.

The tragedy is that the European males, who have the good sense to ban our BGH milk and our BGH beef are going to be more manly than us in a few years. Can you imagine?

French macho more macho than American macho?

The very idea is an insult to all we hold dear.

No worries. Macho and manly are way over sold attributes.

The question is - will BGH re-make American men into sensitive poets with thick accents who like to vacuum and dust?

I buy non-BGH milk and the label says something like: "At Billy Bob's Family farms we pride ourselves on not using hormones to produce our quality dairy products."*

And down at the bottom they apparently by law have to include this:

*The FDA has shown BGH to be totally safe for milk consumption.

The gubmint actually forces farmers to say their competitors milk is safe when they made no statement to the effect that it wasn't.

Germans 'cleverest in Europe'

Germans are the most intelligent people in Europe, well ahead of the British (in eighth place) and the French (15th), according to a study by the University of Ulster.

Germans scored an average intelligence quotient (IQ) of 107, a scintilla of brainpower above the Dutch who also scored 107, the Polish (106), the Swedish (104) and the Italians (102), the Times newspaper in Britain reported on Monday.

The British rated an even 100 IQ according to the study, ahead of the Spanish (98) and the French (94) who could comfort themselves only by checking the study results for Bulgarians, Romanians, the Turkish and Serbians who languished at the bottom of the table on 89.

They will end up hairy morons based on the current tests.

I watched an internet piece on the way Monsanto covered up and faked their lab results on the so-called "safety" of BGH, the additive they pimp to dairy farmers. Then they called up FOX, whose reporters were investigating this, to make sure the story didn't air on FOX News. Then they got the Fox reporters fired.

So it doesn't surprise me in the least that the FDA is in their pocket. Don't most FDA inspectors wind up working for Monsanto or similar companies anyway?

I believe I read that 2 of the top Monsanto lawyers ended up in the top positions at the FDA.

This organization is advocating that population levels should be either static or in decline in every country in the world, and indeed within every state/province within every country. It is recognized that were such a situation to occur, without effective counter-measures, the global economy would spiral into an irreversible depression. By way of counter-measure we are advocating that governments can adopt an affirmative recycling policy.

Quite simply land is reclaimed for the purpose of regenerating wilderness. The owner of the land that is reclaimed is paid not just the market price of the land, but is paid a price that would allow him/her to buy a property elsewhere. This would mean a win-win situation for the farming community. The farmer whose property is reclaimed is paid more than market value which could not be obtained by any other means. As more and more farms are reclaimed, those farms remaining would escalate in price because there is less competition and less farms available for sale.

The same win-win situation would apply for people who live in small country towns. The owners of properties in those towns that are reclaimed will receive a sufficient price for their property to enable them to buy a comparable property in another country town should they so desire. This in turn would increase the demand for housing in remaining country towns, which in turn would escalate the values of those properties and stimulate local commerce.

Unreal.

Thanks for the ping.
