Karl Rove visits Portland area, and police prepare for protests

Posted by The Oregonian April 13, 2007 11:34AM

Karl RoveRepublicans in Washington County are aflutter today, police are scrambling and lefty bloggers are ablaze over the visit to the Portland area of Karl Rove, one of the White House's most controversial figures. President Bush's chief political strategist is scheduled to give a talk in Tigard that's organized by the Washington County GOP. The "grassroots reception" -- for people wearing "business attire, please" -- is designed to help funnel funds into local GOP coffers. At $60 a pop, the event quickly sold out. According to Tigard police, about 200 people are expected -- inside a conference room in the Embassy Suites hotel at Washington Square Mall at 9000 S.W. Washington Square Road.

But perhaps many more people will be outside, protesting a man likened on some blogs as Satan himself. Rove has been linked to the leak revealing Valerie Plame's professional identity as a covert CIA agent, the firing of eight U.S. attorneys last year and this week, to deleted e-mails in the White House.

BlueOregon has been holding a photo caption contest leading up to Rove's visit, and bloggers at Portland.indymedia have been organizing a protest.

Tigard police are gearing up for the event, working with the Secret Service and neighboring police departments.

"We are poised to ensure everybody's safety and their constitutional rights," said Jim Wolf, spokesman for the Tigard Police Department.

I'm sure that is all they ever do. They ensure those rights with tazer guns if necessary.

Maybe they want to have him out of town for a while.

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

4um has a representative in the crowd!

Will protests break out in Tigard [Oregon] over advisor's appearance? (Welcome to 'Little Beirut,' Karl)

Yep. Portland has become "Little Beirut" in all ways. No debate of ideas, just shouting down people - and those who do the shouting have nothing to offer of their own other than "Let's sit around the campfire and sing kum-ba-yah."

Portland has become, for all intents and purposes, a town of worthless idiots hell-bent on simple destruction with nothing offered up to take the place of what the idiots want to destroy.

Fortunately, the rest of Oregon actually has some intelligence....to counterbalance the zero IQ types inhabiting Portland.

We call it "Moscow on the Willamette" for very good reasons.

Who better to deal with Rove than one of his own.

There is a difference here. Rove actually has plans beyond just trashing things. Most of the rabble in Portland just cares about demolishing things. They leave it to someone else to rebuild and complain bitterly that they "disapprove" of how it is being done while offering ZERO assistance.

On the scale of "thinking men" -- Rove is better than most of the twinks in Portland. He understands the concept of 'aftermath'. Most of the twinks Portland think its fun to trash something and just leave it that way.

This is not an endorsement of Rove, but a comment on the rabble. The rabble needs to understand the concept of "follow through".....but that might actually require some actual thought.....

You mean, they oppose Rove?

I thought Portland did that, by the way.

Like what?

He certainly seems to like trashing e-mails. And laws. And the Constitution.

That's all part of Rove's plan for Total Global Domination (accept no less)...

The rabble in Portland, well, they have no plans beyond "Trash Rove" - and then what? What do they replace him with? After you chase this batch of twits out, who do you put in? Portlanders just protest whomever is in office regardless.

Having lived here for 25+ years, I can tell you they don't think things through.

I've pepper-sprayed protestors off my car before (nice way to make me sympathetic - attack the civilian!)
I've done battle with Feminazis down at Portland State because they thought my kilt was sexist.

And on and on...these people just do NOT have functioning brains. They cannot think beyond the hate.

Rove sounds a lot more dangerous than the rabble you're so critical of.

That much is true and not being disputed. The comment I'm making is that Rove is brighter than the rabble because the rabble sees nothing beyond "destroy" -- they need to say "Replace this BS with this other BS" and then Portland won't be "Little Beirut" anymore, but "Little Paris" where we plan in the coffee houses the replacement of leadership....

After we guillotine the appropriate parties, of course :)

Explain that noble concept to the Iraqis. Rove deserves the "rabble'. They are him.
