In light of the recent campus shooting it brought to mind the ever-present erosion of our liberties. This morning I tuned into the Mark Davis show (WBAP, Dallas) to hear what the MSM and its shills are saying about the Virginia Tech. "massacree" (no 8X10 glossies in this case to Arlo Guthrie’s dismay).

Mark was calling for instant background checks upon the purchase of a gun. He said the criteria should be based on criminal and mental health background checks. Are TPB planning on using the Russian model of deeming dissidents mentally ill in order to take away their liberties? How hard would it be to get a couple of government shrinks to diagnose someone insane based on his supposed actions or writings. Maybe they were tired of installing child porn on dissident’s computers.

The road to tyranny is being paved not by outright loss of liberties but removal by degrees, the Hitler model:

They came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.

This piecemeal loss of liberties marches onward with each new event, staged or real. Even the Sheep’s wool would be ruffled if TPB removed our rights outright. But the slippery slope and infringement are concepts beyond the grasp of your typical sheep basking in the flicker of 4.5 hrs a night of MSM programming.

The elite see the nibbling at the edges as an excellent vehicle to achieve their goals. (1 image)

I try to give up bad habits every so often. This year I finally gave up smokeless tobacco after the tax on it went up again on Jan. 1.

About 10 years ago, I gave up watching TV, except for the occasional college football game of importance when the Longhorns, team of my alma mater, are playing.

Around that same era, I gave up listening to Limbaugh and the Limbaugh "wannabes" such as Mark Davis.

Mark Davis is just sad. Or pathetic. Either fits.

Now I more often listen to various kinds of music (my definition of "music" doesn't include "country" or "rap"). I have reverted to the habits of my youth in that regard.

You have me beat; I gave up TV and it’s brainwashing about 7 years ago.

Limbaugh, Mark Davis, Sean Hannity, Michael Medved (the most overt shill IMHO) as well as many others are complete and total intellectual prostitutes selling out their fellow man. They should be strung from trees if we ever take back our republic.

But I listen every now and then to see what the enemy is up to.

There's a short story written by a friend of mine named John E. McNesty that you should read sometime, Sam.

It's about the role smokeless tobacco plays in alien abductions.

Mark was calling for instant background checks upon the purchase of a gun. He said the criteria should be based on criminal and mental health background checks.

The background check is already mandatory nationwide, but it's up to the states to include mental health records.

My state (DE) added that provision about 10 years ago after a man with a mental health history bought a .357 from a dealer and used it to murder his landlady. She was a lovely young woman who was just trying to get by in life by owning some rental property in addition to her full time job.

The tenant's history would have resulted in a flag on his name had the law been in effect at the time of purchase.

Not all persons would be flagged, i.e. voluntary short term commitments for depression with no history of violence. There is already a disqualifying question on the form 4473 that asks whether or not the purchaser has ever been committed for longer than 30 days, but, federal law does not mandate a check of mental health records unless linked to the criminal database (i.e. not guilty by reason of insanity) so in many cases a legally disqualified purchaser may lie and still pass the background check.

In my state a hit results in the purchase being delayed while the records are researched and a determination of fitness is made. In most cases the police (state bureau of identification or DE SBI) deny automatically and the person must go to court to secure an order to be allowed to purchase.

The police would rather that the courts make the determination that someone is not a person prohibited. This should surprise no one because if the police had their way no one would but the cops would be armed.
