They are not offered as proof of anything, but merely to prompt consideration or disproof of any links. Cho’s father lived in Saudi Arabia as a young, single man. His sister works for a State Department contractor which oversees billions of dollars of aid for Iraq. Previously, she worked in Bangkok. (1) Both of Cho’s plays are about sexual abuse. (2) Bangkok is a city famous for its sex trade, which caters especially to Muslim businessmen. Cho’s rampage was on Holocaust Remembrance day. Although probably a happenstance, one of the professors he killed was a Jewish holocaust survivor. (3) Cho used the pseudonym Ismael Ax. Ismael (or, Ismail) is the son of Abraham who became the ancestor of all Arabs, as opposed to Israel who became ancestor of all Jews (4). Although there are many Western references to this person, and many literary characters named “Ishmael,” that spelling is Hebraic. “Ismael” or “Ismail” is uniquely Arabic. Ismaili is also a branch of Shiite Islam (5) In each play, Cho’s characters rant about the horrible decadence of American life. Targets include McDonalds, the Roman Catholic church, Michael Jackson and the NFL. (2). Cho is from Fairfax County, Virginia. This is also the home of 1 in 8 Virginians, but it is also the home of Yong Ki Kwon, a 29-year-old graduate of Virginia Tech, who, like Cho, is also from South Korea. Kwon was convicted of terrorism, one of the so-called “paintball Jihadis,” who practiced massacres with paintball guns. John McCain was heckled Wednesday night by a South Carolina town hall audience member when he reiterated his support for gun rights in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings. The Arizona Republican, who was asked to state his views on gun rights in light of the tragedy, said, "Our hearts go out to all of the victims and their families in that terrible tragedy and that crazy person. Words are not, I don't have a large enough vocabulary to express how saddening and terrible this tragedy is. So I won't try any further except they know that all Americans prayers are with them as they go through this terrible trauma. I do not believe that we should tamper with the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America." As the crowd applauded, a woman immediately yelled, "Do you think George Washington stood for automatic weapons?" McCain responded, "I think that George Washington stood for the right to bear arms which is their constitutional right." -Democratic Underground So on Daily Kos they blame Mental Illness; on Democratic Underground they blame Guns, on Alex Jones they blame Government Black Ops; and on Free Republic they blame the Moslems. Thanks for the info. I am resolved to taking my time on this one. The Muslim angle seems to have some connection. Maybe he was simply outraged at American culture and wanted to express some degree of support for the Muslims in the world we are bombing or bullying. I don't believe there was any Muslim connection, however, other than the superficial one he may have been attempting to make.

Washington respected the RKBA, I don't think it was because it was "constitutional". I'm fairly confident he viewed it as a natural, God given right.

I agree. I think his rant included some language that suggests he feels the same outrage as some Muslims in the mideast must feel towards Americans, but it doesn't appear to suggest he's Muslim. I think that would have been made very, very clear if it were the case. That's not to say he might not have been influenced at some point by Muslim thought. He was in college and he's 23. Young men often read the Quran in that time frame because they read a variety of theocratic or philosophic texts. Muslims do consider Jesus a prophet, however. Unlike Jews, Muslims think highly of Jesus, they just don't think he was more than a prophet.
You and I disagree on some things but not this one. The second amendment gives us a key right. It means we lose a cluster of citizens to insanity once a year like this, but it's a trade off, the same one we make every time we put our car in gear and leave the house.

Unfortunately, McCain is being disingenuous and he knows it. The 2nd Amendment has been repudiated and deballed..made impotent for all practical purposes.. and he knows it. Gun restrictions of ANY kind are not what the 2nd amendment had in mind. He's throwing up red herrings for political purposes. If I need a license to protect my family, and I am restricted as to where I can take it, that is not Freedom.
