The purpose of this thread is to applaud our hosts for this place, and what we like about it. One of the things I do not like about modern USA culture is that people do not properly thank others. It's as if they believe they're giving up something to acknowledge that someone else did something nice.

Running a site is a royal pain in the ass, and time consuming. It costs something to run, and someone has to pay that.

So thank you to the owners, and here's what I like about Freedom4um:

1. No smilies!! I hate those things. I can barely stand to read DU because there are so many people who use them. Why not crayons?

2. No threads calling for government to FIX whatever today's most visible problem is.

What are your favorite things about Freedom4um and how it is run?

The software and site maintenance appear to be top-notch. Neil did an excellent job on the software.

Moderators only seem to moderate as necessary. Little or no censorship. Diverse opinions are permitted to clash in the arena of ideas.

No superposter "hall monitors" who steer conversations or work under multiple handles to manufacture cause for banning someone they have trouble debating. FR got infested with that crap.
