http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_operations

Psychological Operations (PSYOP,PSYOPS) are techniques used by military and police forces to influence a target audience's emotions, motives, objective reasoning, and behavior. Target audiences can be governments, organizations, groups, and individuals, and are used in order to induce confessions, or reinforce attitudes and behaviors favorable to the originator's objectives. These are sometimes combined with black operations or false flag tactics.

This concept has been used by military institutions throughout history, but it is only since the twentieth century that it has been accorded the organizational and professional status it enjoys now.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_op

"Black operation" which is a type of covert operation. In this context, "black" is a term used in political, military, intelligence, and business circles to refer to activities that are either secret, or of questionable ethics and/or legality.

Neocon Academic Glorifies P2OG Terrorism
Mr. Henriksen writes:

Sowing divisions among enemies is as old as warfare. By the time Niccolò Machiavelli cited the ancient political maxim divide et impera, the strategy of dividing to conquer had long been accepted in statecraft and warfare. U.S. military forces have not ignored the tactics associated with pitting one enemy against another. But those tactics have often been subordinated to the American way of war that relies on massive firepower. The global struggle against violent extremism is a highly political conflict where overwhelming combat “punch” is less applicable. By the same token, the extreme ideological and political divisions among the terrorists and insurgents open chinks to savvy and adaptable forces.

BEFORE BLACKWATER, THERE WAS CAPTAIN HENRY MORGAN

Captain Morgan

Morgan was arrested and sent to London to face the consequences.

But as relations with Spain deteriorated, King Charles II forgave him, gave him a knighthood and sent him back to Jamaica.

http://www.cavazzi.com/morgan/

What must first be made clear is that Henry Morgan was not a pirate. A rogue maybe, but not a pirate. He was a privateer. This meant he held a paper issued by a representative of the English government, the governor of Jamaica, empowering him to fight the Spaniards on England's behalf. His pay was in effect what he managed to steal from Spain.

Today this might seem a dastardly way for any government to conduct itself, but in the world of the 17th century these were accepted means of conducting naval war among European powers. Hence Henry Morgan was not an outlaw pirate but a sea-raider authorised by an English Letter of Marque.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

I was looking for a history of Black Ops and Psyops and discovered that there is not enough historical commentary.

Although 4um has many threads that touch on this subject, an overall view is lacking, IMO.

PLEASE ADD TO THE LIST. CONSIDER THIS THREAD JUST A STARTING PLACE.

That's great psyops of more recent times. I'm trying to get at the history, like going back to Merlin. It might make these modern examples more believable, if it is understood how old an art this magic is.

Also, every psyops tends to have a black op, and vice versa. They go hand in hand.

You'd do well to look at the early Christian Church, in that case.

Just the "Crusades" are a major case of Psyops; add the Inquisition.

The Inquisition was a "necessary" purging to get/keep the rubes in line.

The Crusades were a nice excuse for stealing, much like the current war in Iraq.

There were some religious ideals being exploited, much like patriotism is being exploited today.

I've come to believe that all gov ops are either psy or black or both, because govs themselves are criminal operations. They may not have started out with that intent - but it's what they become over time.

The problem is that private enterprise (mobsters included) and international interests (read: Israel) are now the major players in the field.

That's really bad news.

That, and since we've ceased being "good," we've not so great anymore.

Very good.

I'd like to add that the US Constitution, in art. 1 sec 8 reads; "The Congress shall have Power To....declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;"

Control of the high seas was essential to being a world power:

The poem "Rule Britannia" by James Thomson (1700-48) was put to music by Thomas Augustine Arne (around 1740) and is sung as an unofficial national anthem.

When Teddy Roosevelt dispatched The Great White Fleet to circle the globe he essentially announced to The Brits that their reign of the high seas was over. At that time their largest and most impressive battle wagons were of the narrow beam type, and it was decades before they even had a drydock to accommodate larger vessels.

FOOTNOTE: part of the Great White Fleet was assembled for display at the JAMESTOWN EXPO of 1907 in my home Norfolk, VA. It was the 300 year anniversary of the Jamestown colony.

Indeed, England in its prime routinely issued Letters of Marque that authorized rogues outside government to engage in piracy, splitting the booty with the Crown.

In our Revolutionary war, recall, UK hired Hessians instead of Blackwater, but the song remains the same.

In this era, however, we aren't supposed to be doing that. We're supposed to be operating our government in the light, where we can assure the country's ideals are being met.

The Brits commanded units of Native Americans during the Revolutionary War also. The Battle of Blue Licks, is an example.

But the Brits cannot be the first to employ Black Ops. The Romans I'm sure did also.

The Mormons tried one, they massacred some people and tried to make it look like the Injuns did it.

Don't get me started on the Moron Church.

My working theory: Joseph Smith came up with "Mormon" because he was going to use Masonic rituals to fool Morons into following him.
