Did Republicans sieze control of Ohio election servers in 2004?

Update: Looks like someone else was way ahead of me. That's what I get for blogging during my lunch. ;)

Here's an odd one.

Netcraft is a website that tracks IP adresses, server software, etc. They basically keep a running snapshot of the internet, it's servers, and it's trends.

Well, someone recently noticed something extremely fishy that happened in early November, 2004 (and later, in April 2006). Ohio's Secretary of State's website suddenly, without warning and with no reason, suddenly switched servers to the same hosting company that runs the RNC shell-game email server, http://gwb43.com.

The IP address was changed to a IP block that is reserved for RNC use, 64.203.96.0 – 64.203.111.255. The server software even changed from "unknown" (used when a IT person properly secures the website) to "Windows 2000" (used when an IT person is only technically such).

So. Anyone wanna tackle why the RNC suddenly took control of the Elections server for Ohio 2004, out of the blue, right before an election?

It'll be interesting if the e-mail scandal ends up telling us how the Republicans stole the 2004 election.

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.
