A waiter also was injured, police said. At least two assailants entered Dave & Buster's Restaurant at about 4:30 p.m. and opened fire, killing two men and injuring Jose Carlos Morales, a 19-year-old waiter, according to investigators. One of the victims was shot at least twice at close range in the back of the head and the other in the face, said Raul Maldonado, director of public safety for the Monterrey suburb of San Pedro Garza Garcia, where the restaurant is located. "Judging by the way the attack was carried out, it looks like it was a settling of scores likely linked to drug trafficking," Maldonado said. He said the victims were between the ages of 25 and 35, but wouldn't release their identities. Police were looking for a Hummer believed to be the getaway vehicle. A witness told a local television station a woman and child came to the restaurant with the victims but were not hurt in the attack. The killings came hours after the Monday discovery of the badly burned body of a man left in the trunk of a car set ablaze. That victim was found after authorities recovered the lifeless and still-burning body Sunday of another man dumped in a separate location south of Monterrey. The border region in northeast Mexico has seen an increase in drug-related killings after the area's top reputed drug lord, Osiel Cardenas, was arrested in 2003 during a shootout in Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas. Authorities say the violence has intensified as another accused drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, has been fighting smugglers loyal to Cardenas to gain access to drug smuggling routes in Nuevo Laredo and other border cities.
