William Rodriguez Email from Kevin Barrett of Mujca. William Rodriguez's real story - the story of the explosions he witnessed that day - was never reported in the US mainstream media...until now. Thanks to the dozens of people who kicked in with time, energy and money to bring William Rodriguez on his first Midwest speaking tour, William is now on the record, in the US mainstream media, describing the explosions he witnessed while performing heroic rescue work on September 11th, 2001. http://www.leadertelegram.com/story.asp?id=82015 http://www.weau.com/news/headlines http://www.weau.com/news13noonand5/headlines/743082.html http://badgerherald.com/news/2007/04/23/trade_center_custodi.php http://www.dailycardinal.com/news/world-trade-center-custodian-tells-her... http://www.pjstar.com/stories/042307/TRI_BD10AM9S.060.php "They always left the part about explosions out," Rodriguez says of previous mainstream US media coverage of his story. At first he thought this was because they had to convey the story in just a few minutes or paragraphs. But when the 9/11 Commission made Rodriguez testify in secret and then sealed that testimony, while refusing to hear more than a dozen corroborating witnesses, he realized that the government and mainstream media were hell-bent on covering up the truth. (For a summary of some of the massive eyewitness testimony about the controlled demolition of the World Trade Center, see Explosive Testimony: Revelations about the Twin Towers in the 9/11 Oral Histories, By Dr. David Ray Griffin.) Since then, Rodriguez has been on a mission of truth on behalf of the family members and other victims of 9/11. "Do not let anyone tell you that the victims do not have the right to ask questions and find out how and why their loved ones died," Rodriguez says. It is long past time for mainstream journalists (if that _expression is not an oxymoron) to take Rodriguez at his word and start asking the hard questions about 9/11. "We thought the generator blew up. Walls cracked, the ceiling fell on us, and the sprinkler system went off. Horror," the former North Tower janitor said Sunday. A man with skin melting from his face, arms and hands came running into the office shortly after, yelling "explosion, explosion!" A plane rammed into the building moments later, recalled Rodriguez, a native of Puerto Rico and United States citizen. Rodriguez told his story and spoke of his concerns Sunday afternoon to a crowd of about 100 people at Lakeview Museum. He carried the man out of the building to safety and, as the last man out of the North Tower, rescued countless others that day. But he said that almost every time he, or any other witness, has tried to speak up about that first explosion, he is censored. To this day, he isn't sure what happened. He showed up for work the day of the terrorist attacks about 30 minutes late, which probably saved his life, he told the crowd. Most mornings, he went to the 107th floor to eat breakfast at Windows on the World. Though Rodriguez was horrified by the lower level explosion, his terror was intensified when the plane crashed into the North Tower at 8:46 a.m., he said. He immediately thought about his good friends in his favorite breakfast hangout. "I screamed 'We've got to go back!' Those are my friends up there," he said. As adrenaline took over his body, he spent the next hour and 45 minutes helping firefighters rescue people from the building, hoping eventually to reach his friends. He rescued countless others by unlocking the doors to the stairwells, as most locked automatically upon disaster. His heart sank after the 65th story collapsed, as he knew then that he would not be able to save his companions on the 107th floor. "I saved hundreds, but I couldn't help my friends," he said Sunday, his eyes filling with tears. He ran out of the building as the towers were collapsing, hiding under a fire truck, but not before taking a quick look back and seeing the horrific sight of unidentifiable bodies of those who had jumped out of the tower. He assumed he, too, would die, and prayed that his mother would at least be able to recognize him. Yet, he survived, and became an American hero actively sought out by the media. As he watched interviews of himself and others who shared his experience, he discovered a common trend: anything about the perceived basement-based first explosion was edited out in American broadcasts. In addition, the 9-11 Commission, which he helped initiate, was printed without the testimony of those who had felt a basement explosion before the plane crash. Though Rodriguez is sometimes pegged as a conspiracy theorist, he said he is not. He is simply an eyewitness with concerns, and wants to know what really happened that day. "It's not a conspiracy, it's that (the government isn't) answering questions," he said. "We need to stand up for this and question the original story. " As Rodriguez spoke, Adam Stevens, 26, of Washington diligently took notes. Like Rodriguez, he has questions but does not venture to guess about motives. "I like the fact that he doesn't talk about conspiracy, just personal experiences. I think it's pretty heroic," he said. Robert Lawrence, 50, of East Peoria said he thought Rodriguez's speech was important whether you believe his story or not. "You can either take what he says as fact or fallacy, but either way it's compelling." Lindsay Schoon can be reached at 686-3114 or lschoon@pjstar.com
