European Skin Turned Pale Only Recently, Gene Suggests Ann Gibbons PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA--At the American Association of Physical Anthropologists meeting, held here from 28 to 31 March, a new report on the evolution of a gene for skin color suggested that Europeans acquired pale skin quite recently, perhaps only 6000 to 12,000 years ago.

Maybe this explains the hostility in this country from Southern Whites toward the theory of evolution and the embrace of "creation science". I got no problem with the notion that my six-thousand-years-ago ancestors were negroes, or oriental or polynesian looking or whatever. I didn't get to choose my race, I didn't earn it, and I have no reason to be proud of something I had nothing to do with.

Well of course not...since as you said we had no control over that. I just highly doubt the theory, that's all.
Law Enforcement Against Prohibition Well, it's genetic theory, which is the same stuff scientists have used to map the genome, cure a bunch of diseases and clone various animals. If it's theory that works, it's generally good theory.

Skin color actually has little to do with race but with proximity to the equator and therefore the strength of the sun in any given region. For instance we've all seen Indians with Caucasian features but very dark skin. Eskimos have fairly light skin, almost as light as Europeans and as they get away from their traditional diet which is very high in vitamin D their skin will most likely become lighter in time (thousands of years?).
Next, let them discuss this: dark skin, stupid; light skin, smart.
