It's Impeachment Day!

Congress has "investigated" and "overseen" and "held accountable" the unitary executive branch of our government for four months. Officials who have testified have been unable to "recall" their crimes and have refused to produce subpoenaed documents. Now Condoleezza Rice says she's "not inclined" to obey a subpoena requiring her to appear and answer questions about forged documents that were used to mislead our nation into war.

Congress has no power to compel her to testify. Neither do our courts. Law enforcement power belongs to the unitary executive. But executives who fail to faithfully execute the laws of this land can be removed from office. That power rests solely with Congress. It is the only tool remaining to preserve our democracy. It is called impeachment.

Today, Saturday, April 28th, we launch Impeachment Summer with events in 43 states, and several foreign countries, with a fleet of seven airplanes, and with the support of millions of Americans. Find the nearest event and bring your friends:

http://www.a28.org

Please bring a stack of impeachment petitions, some pens, and some clipboards. Collect people's names and contact info on the petitions. Then use that list to organize future activist efforts locally, and also add the names to the national list. You can get the petitions and everything you need at:

Veto Bush: Impeach Him

If, as expected next week, Bush vetoes the war supplemental bill because it does not encourage eternal war, the majority of Americans who want the war to end someday will organize rallies in protest of the president's action. United for Peace and Justice is posting information on planned events here:
http://tinyurl.com/26xyob

We encourage everyone to take part and to bring posters with the message "Veto Bush: Impeach Him." We do not need Congress wasting more time with another war funding bill to replace this one. Bush has the money to bring the troops home. Congress has a duty to begin the job of impeachment.

Iraq Action Camp

As the Iraq War rages into its fifth year, more than 3,300 American soldiers are dead and more than 24,000 are wounded. While the American public overwhelmingly supports bringing the troops home, many in Congress refuse to hear this message. In response, Campus Progress and MoveOn.org are sponsoring Iraq Action Camp, an opportunity for students from across the country to travel to Washington DC, discuss the issues with activists and experts, learn valuable organizing skills, and work to bring the troops home.

Do you want to tell your Congressperson face to face that it's time to end the war? Do you want to prepare for the most exciting semester of action your campus has ever seen? Do you want to meet students from all across the country who are working to end the war? At Iraq Action Camp, you can.

Join us this summer for an intense week of training, campfires, lobbying, s'mores, and connections in Washington DC from either May 20th-24th or June 10th-14th. Get trained by experienced organizers from MoveOn, Democracy Matters, United States Student Association, Campus Progress, and elsewhere. Learn what a strategic campaign looks like and how to work with the media to get your message out, then qualify for grant money to turn your vision into reality. There are a limited number of spots, and they're going fast, so apply today at http://www.iraqactioncamp.org

April 28, 2007: Impeachment Summer Begins This Spring!

George Bush and Dick Cheney have lied the nation into a war of aggression, are spying in open violation of the law, and have sanctioned the use of torture. These are high crimes and misdemeanors that demand accountability. Since Congress doesn't seem to get it, on April 28 Americans from Miami, Florida to North Pole, Alaska are going to spell it out for them: IMPEACH!

Use the new ImpeachMap below to find out what's going on in your area, post a new action, or find people to team up with. Complete instructions beneath the map.

CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL-SIZED VERSION OF THE MAP. The map is now the most up-to-date place to find out what's happening on April 28.

As much as I would like to see Bush and Cheney impeached, I don't see the votes right now. But as the public becomes more and more exasperated with Bush and Cheney, that could happen.
