When I picked up my mail yesterday, there was a small box from the U.S. Army addressed to me. Now I retired over 20 years ago, so of course I was interested to see what they would be sending me. When I opened the box, I found a "Go Army" decal, a lapel pin "U. S. Army Retired", and a DVD. Well I could hardly wait to play the DVD!
Did you ever see the "Parallax View" with Warren Beatty? There is a scene where they are screening him to see if he has the right goods to be a political assasin...he's sitting in a chair, watching images on a screen, power images, love images, patriotic images, some sick images.
This DVD MUST have been produced by the same group!!! What a bunch of jingoistic horse-shit. Images of greeting mom&dad as the 'hero' returns from war, helping starving children, physical training, authority figures, soldiers receiving comendations, all accompanied to an Aaron Copleand-like score that built to a crshing cresendo. Even my other half said the thing gave her the creeps. I am assuming that the Army figures us granpas will show this shit to our grandkids. Next time you pay your taxes, remeber where part of your money went.
