The Parrot Song
(ode to the ignorant)
Oh how I love to be confused
that's why I watch the evening news
That's why I read the paper each day
and fill my mind with whatever they say
I really don't know what's right or wrong
I listen to the parrot song
It draws me in, it makes me see
Just what they want my thoughts to be
I have no need to think anymore
I have become the deceiver's whore
I sell my soul for lies every day
The less I know, the more I say
Lies for truth, war for peace
Money for happiness, health for disease
They must be right, I know that, I do
I know that they're right, and that makes me right too
Without thought I believe, Without question I trust
To hide from the truth, I do what I must
It's not safe to ask who, what why or where
It would destroy the beliefs that I hold so dear
Me, I'm allright with whatever they say
I'm a pawn in the game that they play every day
I memorize the parrot song
And if you don't then you don't belong
I am a piece of cold dead clay
molded by the news of the day
molded by a dark vicious craft
that hides behind a two faced mask
They tell me who to hate and who to despise
I bask in the comfort of their perverse lies
The fear that they feed me makes me feel weak
The future's so bright, the future's so bleak
So if you ask me what's going on
I will sing to you the parrot song
I'm a parrot in a cage, you see
a cage that was built for you and for me.
