All is Vanity See other All is Vanity Articles Title: Swings... Mindless blabber? Maybe, but today I was out at the Stable where we board our horse. They have this great, ancient monstrosity of a swingset. Must be at least 40 years old. The place was a pesthole when the owners bought it a few years back, and some one of the prior owners must have thought it was cool and put it in before the great decrepidation came upon it.. It's not one of those loser, canvas seated, lawyer fearing, pansy swingsets. No, it's a great, iron triangle, bolted on used bias ply tire sheet, heavy gauge chain-holds them, swing sets of the gods. Every once in a while, when I am working in the area, I drop by to eat an apple and a few carrots with the Mickster (Non-Pariel is his froofy horse name, but Mickey is his handle for the real world, and as far as the genus equus goes, he's way cool in my book 'cause he's not "dumb as a sack of rocks" like a lot of the horse genre is). Any way, occasionally, that great monstrosity of a swing beckons me. You're like, six inches off the ground at the bottom, and the chain length must be close to 15 feet at least. Man, I sat in that thing today and it was like some type of time machine. You know you can remember the feel. Working the legs, getting up a huge swooping arc. And the temperature outside, it was perfect, toasty warm, swing in the shade, the arc of the swing wafting a cool breeze over you. I leaned back and watched the grass rocket inches away from my nose. I closed my eyes and savored the innocent high of the pendulaic vertigo. Do you remember the swingset?!?! I swear, for a moment I thought, if you planted these suckers all over the planet, no one would raise a hand against another forever. For 30 minutes, the FED, Iraq, immigration, everthing... It wasn't bullshit, it just wasn't there. Next time you see one, I don't care how old you are, or serious, or worried you'll be "a dork", get the hell on! Take a ride...
